Ooo fancy start
Week 47 - Hajime Miura Triangle Trick
This week we’re doing a triangle element by Hajime Miura from a Junyi Lin tutorial. I love his tutorials, and I think this one is about right for the tougher side of TAW.
I found the most difficult part to be the element at 22 and 42 seconds. If you keep your hands close together and rotate the yoyo around aiming towards the string coming off your TH thumb, you should be able to get it.
It’s not the easiest motion to explain (so also if anyone has a better explanation, please help!), but I think of it like… when the yoyo gets to the apex, you want to move your TH to generate a little bit of slack that lets the strings pass under the yo-yo.
Below is a video with few angles of slow mo if it’s helpful.
slow mo in a couple of angles
Not all great, but figured more was better.
Here’s my take
yessss!! been waitin for today, let’s gooo!
Okay I figured out the trick. Going to run through it throughout the day today and I’ll post it up when I can get it to flow decently smooth. That part was definitely funky and a bit confusing for me to learn at first. Not really sure if this is a better explanation really, but it helped me to think mostly about getting the right string segments to fall out of the gap. This is super hard to see in the video, but you don’t really land on the string coming off the thumb exactly. That string segment is on the other side (the top side?) of the bearing, so once you get the right strings to fall out of the gap, you land in the correct mount. That’s why the string coming off the th thumb isn’t under the bearing when you land the element. I did my best to try to explain it and think the extra slowmos help. Good luck everyone! Also this is a very very very cool trick. I like that the yoyo is just rolling in the same direction the whole time pretty much.
That’s a good point that you’re not really landing on the string coming off your thumb, it’s just something to aim for (the subtitles there also say something to that effect).
It really is weird to explain - that’s why I went for just a bunch of slow mo shots.
One thing I will add is that at first I pinched the string with my NTH during that part (to understand what was going on, and it sort of looks like he does that in the POV of the tutorial), but I find that actually really unhelpful now. Pinch is bad for me.
whew! just taking a break and stopped in to say this one’s tough! it’s intense but I’m getting it. starting with the element yall have been discussing, ive been breaking it into the three major rolls, and I’ve got that part but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. that first one was tough but the slomo helped, thanks for that. the next part appears to be dropping a loop maybe? but that’s the element I’m trying to work through now. haven’t quite figured out where to pass the yoyo on that one. but this is the first time I’m working through a tut with frame by frame and really trying to break it down so building those skills too
very fun grinding it out. gonna get the munchkin to the park for some sun and fresh air, but I’ll keep at it later tonight
Okay so for this roll, you kind of just roll and pull your hand closer to yourself so you miss the string and drop out of the mount and then finish pin wheeling around unmounted and land on that string for the gt! Almost done so nice work yo! Look for what’s going to allow you to fall out of the mount and you’ll get it I’m sure! Enjoy the outdoor time w the family!
ok that’s kinda what i thought but in a couple of frames it almost looked like it passed behind a string
edit: oooh, got it! been hittin it for an hour or so now. i can see the dismount needed in that second step much clearer now. i feel like I’m learning to read the matrix lol anyway, ill clean it up and hopefully get it recorded tomorrow. neat trick!
This is awesome, great job!
hello tawers, jimmy gt with the quick whip from last week after
oh great wizards of yoz, how do yall pick the tricks for these?
I just follow a ton of channels that make tuts and saved a bunch that seem like about the right difficulty like not too hard so that it feels possible to do in a week. Also still like interesting enough hopefully and different than what we have done or builds on it. Picking the tricks can be pretty hard and i like to learn the trick first usually also to double check and make sure it’s like about the right difficulty. I try to vary up the content creators also so ppl can see what all is out there bc the algo pushes certain things a ton. Idk also i like to pick trick that I personally like or think are cool or technically useful enough it would good for ppl to learn them. I did taw like most of last year when i was way newer and so did charlie so i think we have a good idea of what works and doesn’t for taw at this point. Also I’ll try to include stuff if people think they see something that would work and DM me and it would be good. Especially if it’s ppl that participate a lot also bc then they have a good sense of what works or doesn’t and also can help out if ppl have questions
well yall are doing an awesome job and ty for doing it
Thanks yo! I really appreciate that and I’m glad to be able to keep it going this year! It helped me improve immensely last year and it’s sweet to see people trying out the tricks and learning.
