Trick-a-Week 2023 - #52 - Control Workshop

Hole in a Bucket. Very cool trick. Trying to keep up…i noticed this is a cool follow up to ripcord / wormhole so i opened with that.

Black hops is one I’ve been trying to get smoother for a while. I can hit it 75% so I’m glad to review.

You ever see the video of Connor Seals using a fix axle doing all kinds of the most insane whips? My mind is still blown.

Tried to post the video on here but it won’t let me. It’s on his Instagram.

Whenever I get to the undercut hops my brain keeps turning Black Hops into the end of Rancid Milk :joy: maybe I will just chain them together. I am going to learn the whole trick first lol

I try and chain rewind into black hops sometimes

Black hops…

I was not really interested in recording a black hops video but decided doing a small trick idea video which I called “black wheels“. Happy if somebody improves it was just my first take on it.

Late Hole in the Bucket post. I have a bad habit of grabbing the knot and losing the effect because it always gets tangled for me, but we’ll work on it lol

Nice! I’ve had the loop of the knot get caught inside my yoyo a few times yesterday ha.I’m gonna try to post a video today.

managed to get the first half down, but everything past the 1.5 remount i can’t do, any tips? i tend to not have enough string to fully toss it

Yeah so each time you hop for the second half, you want to point your indexes down to scoot all the strings except the one you just undercut to the base of your fingers. Also when you go for the undercuts, try to undercut as close to the Yoyo as you can without hitting it. so for the cut double or nothing, the Yoyo should land way closer to your non throw hand than your throw hand bc there will be way more space on that side. Also no need to rush at all when you’re figuring out the hops. You can pause at each spot to make sure you have the strings set up well and picture the hop you’re about to go for then take a deep breathe and go for it.

Edit: Here are some pics to show how I have the strings pushed back and the space that opens up to land the Yoyo

Dang I might have a “rough draft” of Black Hops ready later today already lol. S/o to Rancid Milk I feel like the part in that trick where you have to undercut helped me with this

Lol… I’m still working on rancid milk!

i gave up on black hops last night and tried spirit bomb and it’s so much worse :broken_heart:

Don’t give up! Both are not the easiest tricks in the world. Spirit Bomb is a nemesis for a lot of people, have you watched the second vid on that trick in this thread with the buff dude? He explains the trick and that first hop/arm cross absolutely perfectly, like it will click I promise. Spirit Bomb was my most satisfying trick to learn thus far and it’s worth it so keep working at it, this thread is full of dope people that are more than willing to help :raised_hands:

Nice! Just take your time and make sure you got the strings scooted back and you’ll get there! Good luck!

Black hops for me has been a long grind type of trick that you just keep working on and working on. I’m at the point now where I’ll get it once in every like 5 tries but I been trying for at least a couple months now. It’s that damn last one on the second part that gives me the most trouble. I also am not very controlled with it at all like the tutorial video Henry posted. Been keeping that in mind lately when I try it.

edit: I lied its not every 5 tries after just trying to film it. It’s every 5 tries I get to the final damn hop and lose it haha. I never tried so many attempts in a row, it felt like I was gettin tunnel vision and had to stop. ha

exactly my case, we just have to keep pushing :muscle:

Y’all will get there! It is definitely a hard trick and even if it not a trick you all want to like perform ever it’s still just a good trick to know imo because it just teaches so much. One more little thing to try is when you undercut the second to last hop into double or brother(?), try to undercut closer to the end on your TH index finger. Then for the last one try to also cut closer to the end of nth index finger, close to the Yoyo and that just helps maximize the space available to land without hitting the other strings.

Thanks I’m going to try that out.
