Does anyone have any ideas for alternatives to these things? Maybe something I could get at an ordinary hardware store? They just don’t last very long, and hit or miss if I can find them.

some folks use linen tape… i was trying to find the thread where it was talked about… it’s in the maintenance and modifications section

Duncan pads work well or thin dif pads that are cut in diameter.

Duncan makes me nuts lately. They seam to have discontinued all the playmaxx they bought out.
You can buy dif pads on the yoyoexpert shop but it looks like Duncan friction stickers were discontinued.

Yes, this. Or hockey stick tape, medical adhesive tape. Anything with a similar coarse fabric texture.
