The Yoyos of World Champions

There’s two different topics commonly bumped for this, and in both of them the actual lists are buried in replies deep within the topics. So I’m just making a new topic, so the OP can have a current (as of 2026) list.

(if the forums are still around and a worlds goes by without me updating, feel free to yell at me.)

The only included lists are what are currently defined as being “Championship Divisions” by the IYYF. Artistic Performance became an extended division in 2024. If somebody else wants to compile a list of yoyos used for AP, Women’s, and Over-40 I can add them to the OP.

i did a quick search, i thought there was a list of the actual winners too - maybe @Exmime posted it - but i couldn’t seem to find it. it would be great if these were linked. thank you @mable for doing this!

Shigehiro Yamada was so close to bringing it back this year for Hydrangea, Jihoo winning to keep the bag with C3 is extra crazy when you consider they’re in the middle of military service right now.

That’s a good idea @fatguysnacks247 I’ll add the player after each yoyo when I get home tonight.

Also the 5a yoyos are so different from each other!

You have basically a 4a yoyo for a while and then the abare which looks 1a except the weight is higher.

The winners are paired with their throw on the YYA article

Some random 5a changes:

2009 Winner: Takuma Inoue
2017 Winner: Takuma Inoue

What was the Phaser? And did that 6 year streak come from the same 3A champ?

Edit: answer for the player is there I see, and holy crud that is insane! I’ll just have to look up what the yoyo looked like

Hajime Miura is nuts! Didn’t he do that mind-blowing 2 yo yo 4A routine too?

i think jeniffer baybrooke won worlds 1998 2a divison with yomega rb2

at least thats what i remember from reading

https://yoyo.fandom.com/wiki/Yomega_RB_II

Thank you for the corrections! Sorry for making you proofread it, I just copy pasted in somebody else’s list of players without even double checking :sob:

That’s on me for not paying more attention.

Just looked a bit more at that and I think you’re probably right, I think @JeiCheetah helped put the 2A list together. If you wanna chime in on what was used, just from a cursory search though RB2 looks right.

this her page if you want to ask her directly, im just going off of the yoyo wiki

I’m very positive she used RBII’s to win Worlds.
I know I’m dating myself here, but I distinctly remember all the hype around that model right after it happened.
