As long as all ingredients for making a good pizza, Are locally available and not subject to Tariff fees….. I will try to stay enthusiastic and look to a brighter future no matter how dark it gets.
On the downside, since most batteries are sourced from other countries, and batteries are used in flashlights to illuminate the darkest of times…… Then we may have a problem.
From what I understand, the situation will only affect; Silencers, suitcase, based atomic weapons, pogo sticks, triangular, frisbees, right handed drumsticks, and funnel cake.
I will add to this response as the information is trickled to me From the international space information gathering conglomeration..
This is a good question that someone else may need to answer, thinking about it I feel like that yoyos will then only be only sold at some point through BST, with very few being bought from retailers and the actual companies. But then again I don’t know a lot about this stuff and thought I put up an idea
Personally I feel it’s a bit premature at the moment to definitively say if it’s going to have a huge impact or not. It feels like a little “sky is falling” is going on everywhere. Unfortunately, me being pessimistic, I feel like companies are going to use this to their advantage to falsely hike prices just because they can and blame it on the tariff. Even if they aren’t being affected by it by any measurable extent. (this is including yoyo companies)
It will probably impact us manufacturers who rely on imported barstock vs the other brands that machine outside of the US. However, I know some brands that are US based that import machined products will also face these challenges, its hard to say if the raw material or finished manufactured goods will suffer more / see more charges. I think volume of units may be affected more based on how large the company is. Currently it is a waiting game.
Some things that are already sky high will simply just vanish.
For example, Invisible yo-yos will no longer be seen.
The Edible yo-yo string Company, because of increased Tension, will unravel.
Almost all the air used to fill Soccer balls is from other Countries… so the Inflation will no doubt have a deflating effect on production.
Soft serve Ice Cream from Australia is considered a delicacy in the United States. Because Australia is located around the Equator , the opposite polar field causes the Soft Serve Ice Cream to swirl counterclockwise, giving a different taste sensation. It will be too expensive to import, sadly.
Because both gas and electric vehicles will be so expensive to operate, all current vehicles will be fitted with Sail Boat sails. They will be propelled by the Hot Air generated by All the people saying the Tariffs won’t hurt our Economy.
And the general mood of the public will change noticeably. No matter how many Happy Meal you eat, you still won’t be happy.
For the purposes of this discussion, no need to be so broad … we’re really talking China, which is where most machining seems to most often occur in China, that’s really the market of relevance. I can’t imagine China will back down, so safest assumption is to factor in additional cost of tariffs.
Does this mean that US machining companies benefit? US is presumably the biggest market by far anyway. Are we going to see more US-based boutiques bringing to market yoyos machined by OneDrop?
Generally, I assume fewer new yoyos coming to market but also fewer purchases overall. So I’d expect that ALL yoyo companies suffer a bit, whether based in Japan, China or the US. Yoyos are a non-essential item, and if costs go up in the short to medium term, it’s likely people will spend according to priorities.
As far as yoyo goes, I am very curious.. as a company, we’re in that middle ground where we have a few orders paid in full earlier in the year, and other runs that haven’t been started yet.. only time will tell for me, but I do think boutique companies will look to cut costs where they can to remain competitive as Mark said. The cost of making yoyos has also gone up every year since my (Patrick) first independent yoyo in 2020. What I can tell you is that Dressel Designs isn’t going anywhere in the near future
I’m sure most of the machine shops we use do other work as well, but since COVID, making yoyos has never been easier and the amount of yoyos being made has never been higher..and im sure it’s similar for businesses relying on these machine shops for other work. I’m curious if they will try to eat some costs to keep their production up in the short term, or if Shenzen and the surrounding area will see a consolidation like we’ve been talking about here for yoyos, with smaller shops closing due to a loss of overseas customers and larger shops taking all competition. Again, only time will tell.
I’ll try to update here in a few weeks as I’m planning on ordering a new production run before the end of the month.
