Just an update, the server idea is still going ahead but currently I am skint but I will get some in the next few days so that that is the current time frame. Sorry it has taken so long but I have some mock exams and I have had a lot of video production work to do as well, so I would be unlikely to play for the next week.
Ive never played it before but id be willing to learn, it looks really cool on youtube
On the topic of server location, I’d say that the east coast of the US is probably one of the better places to put it. That way we can have players from both Europe and the west coast play without going over 200 ping.
Here is the list of USA server locations:
Atlanta - Georgia
Chicago - Illinois
Herndon - Virginia
Los Angeles - California
New York - New York
San Antonio - Texas
Seattle - Washington
St. Louis - Missouri
I know some are not on the east coast (it was just a copy and paste) but where would be the best choice? I am thinking New York since their internet speeds are often much better than average.
Lol, get it in Chigago! That is the closest to meee!
Hmm is it somewhat like GMod? I had HL1 and 2 on my old laptop sold it. And do you guys think a 4GB RAM will handle it?
G-Mod, TF2, Portal and Half-Life 2 are based off of the Valve Source engine and G-Mod is like a user friendly engine editor. TF2 on the other hand is a shooter based off of the Source engine, so it is quite a bit different.
4GB RAM is good, that’s what I have and I run at full settings (which is beautiful I might add), however it is not just the RAM you need to consider, you need to think about your processor and graphics card as well. There are a lot of configs that change your settings based off of your spec as well.
The best thing to do is just download it since it is free and one of the best PC games around.
I’ll have to start the download as soon as I get home. So should I download Half Life 2 and then TF2?
I think TF2 can use some of HL2’s files, so if you intend on playing that any time then yes, but it is not needed.
Ife heard its waaay better than HL1 so I’ll download it too. I’m also buying it for Xbox(the original black Xbox) since it costs 3 dollars too
I’d say it is as good since it does follow on, episode 1 & 2 do drag on for a while but if you like Half-Life you won’t mind one bit. Worth getting if you have the money.
I got it off my friend. He has an “unauthorized copy” of most of the valve games on flash drives so I can just load my laptop with those games. And I also like to mix it up a bit with laptop vs Xbox
TF2 does use the core files of HL2, so if you download TF2 without having HL2 on your steam acc, you might find yourself in the middle of a 11 GB download (that happened to me). My solution was to leave my PC on for one night, this was at my parent’s 1 mbps connection. If I would have been in my student apartment with a 16 mbps line I would have downloaded it much faster.
