Swivel Discussion. Now with Brand New Super Easy Pictorial!! Wee

One day I will have my revenge against Steve Brown for the yoyos he has ruined… one day…

Wait, did I say the quiet part loud again?

Great Idea SkyHighYo !! ;D

I’m a bit late to the discussion, but I just had to try this out & I’m quite impressed with how well this really does work !!

String tension has always been something that I certainly know how to contend with, but certainly does create a real inconvenience to throwing at times. It also plays a role in what types of string I use on certain types of YoYo’s. We can all agree that different strings respond to tension differently. Removing the string tension issue from the equation of string selection really widens your sense of choices as to what string I feel comfortable using now.

I will confess that I had a lot of skepticism before I tried it, but I must confess that it works great !!

Great Job !! Nice contribution to the cause.

You should win a Prize ::slight_smile:

this is great for at school and out in public I always hated adjusting tension now I can to so many suicides.

I updated my thread a bit. Last update, though. I have more tricks, but I don’t want to write them out. Here is the link again to my written trick tutorials utilizing this set-up:

It has some basic and advanced stuff in it. I hope someone finds it interesting, and/or gives this style a try. As for me, I’m “hooked”.

This is a fantastic thread! I’ve been playing my AC all day with the swivel set-up and it’s a gas. I can’t but wonder tho’ if this could lead to a new type of slip knot. Something like a YYE holster only obviously smaller with a built in swivel and quick release. On another note, the danger of having the swivel knots failing (i.e. the knot itself passing thru the swivel loop) can be reduced bye tying the slip knot to the swivel using a basic fishing knot. That should considerably reduce Skyhigh’s liability haha.

Alright… I’ll fix the first post later. Had a crap day… but I received a new Majesty today… so that kinda pepped me up

Yeah, I told a few people I used to tie the string to the swivel like you would a fishing line to a fishing hook, but originally this thread had nothing to do with discussion… I just wanted to mess with people’s heads and I wouldn’t have been able to complete the second half of the video if I had knotted it to the swivel.

But yeah, you can also tie it directly onto the swivel if you wish! And I would actually highly suggest doing! Although, I shall not! muahahaha

Is this the right size?

Yes, but those are kind of thick near the middle, might be more liable to cause damage

Those are different, but they look like they could work. I am not too familiar with swivel sizes etc, I just know Size 12 of the kind that I have works perfectly.

I assume those would work just fine though…

edit: upon second glance they do look kinda bulky

what brand is everyone using? I want to get some off ebay but its hard to tell which one would work from their pictures.

They look like this. $1.26 for a pack of 12 at Walmart… in the fishing aisle.

They have little crappy things attached to them that you need to remove…

so these ones?

Those are  way too big, look for size 12

Those are way bigger.  You want Size 12.

Question;  Do you have a Walmart near you?  It would be considerably cheaper and faster to just go to one.

My walmart had these, they work fine. Amazon.com : Danielson Barrel Swivels (Black, 12) with Safety Snap : Fishing Swivels And Snaps : Sports & Outdoors

But they came without the clip on thing, so just ready to go

Would these work:

you can get 20$ for 2$.

Yes, that is what to get. But why not go to a walmart? Much faster

20 for $4 shipped… or you can get 36 for about the same price at Walmart

I find it easier to purchase stuff online. thanks for all the help!!!

I’m using the Palomar knot right now and haven’t had any problems with it. The Palomar knot is very easy to tie and very secure. A Uni knot cinches up to about the same size as the Palomar, and is very secure, but it’s harder to tie and probably not worth the extra effort.

The Perfection loop knot is also an interesting idea because it gives you a loop around the eye and the knot doesn’t touch the eye at all. You can make the loop just big enough for the swivel to hang freely Without the pressure and friction of a knot cinched tight against the swivel, this one may last longer. I have tried the Perfection loop knot with some Kitty Fat and it ties well … just haven’t tried on a yoyo yet.
