until someone designs side effect rims…..

The magic yoyo n11 had an interesting concept with these silicon inserts you could place on the inside of the rims to add a bunch more weight to it

yeah, but i’m thinking more radical than that, dife yos came with weight rings back in the day, lots of old yoyos did weight rings, i’m thinking more like a bimetal that has exchangeable rims with different weights. a pretty huge challenge imo..

The hardest part would be ensuring they’re on correctly without introducing a large amount of vibe and making sure they’re secure.

It would be almost impossible to put them on by hand and still have them withstand the insane rpms yoyos reach

Dif-e-yo had used removable orings for decades, too lol

Freshly Dirty mod44 did this.

tbf i think we need to keep the scope of what’s being discussed in mind. the entire breadth of the currently available al side effects spans a whopping 1g from ul to energy dome. there’s no earth shattering difference in weight distribution happening here. at most changing this will slightly change the pacing of the yoyo, but it isn’t creating an entirely different yoyo or anything

When I was at the OD shop for the tour and summit drop, I remember hearing that players who were testing it initially couldn’t tell the difference between the lighter one with brass in it and the heavier version with lighter side effects. Don’t remember what side effects they were using, but it was a brass vs aluminum conversation. That’s why they initially ran the lighter one. Many players who were there for the design process said that the design was really good for brass, and the other team members were excited to try the summit 2 with brass after they heard that. If they’re running the heavier version for the final draft, I imagine it would probably have a little more rim weight.
