Strings - Post Your Complaints Here

I hate soft string… my favorite is 4+ month old Sochi string. That stuffs the bomb!
(Atleast I think it’s Sochi string, it came with a yoyo.)

I list that all mine are, on average, around 120cm.

@mable got me thinking I should offer a shorter length, and I may just do that.

I love Sochi extra long string, just really wish they offered it in their thicker size.

How short are we talking here? Most strings come too short for me without cutting, but I’m pretty big. I didn’t realize there was any desire for shorter string, but I’m all for not wasting material if not necessary.
I plan on building a rig that can make several different lengths to accommodate stuff like this.

65-70cm for 3A and 80-90 for 5A, the current string i’m using is 140cm uncut.

I get that there’s always gonna be waste when you size and cut strings, and I don’t really know the economics behind string making. But I can’t help but feel like when I buy a pack of strings that 1/3-1/2 the pack is just going unused for me. It feels like I’m paying for two packs of string, and just throwing one entire pack in the garbage.

I’ve heard some people say that the bulk of the cost of string making comes from labor instead of materials, which might be why it would make more sense to make only longer strings. But it really is a big gripe when I feel like I’m paying for an amount of materials that would essentially be 150-200 strings, but only winding up with 100 strings.

Yeah I can see a bulk of the price being labor, but I’ve done the math and it would definitely be more cost effective to make shorter string. I’ll keep this in mind for sure.

Of little or no use to someone looking for suggestions on improvements to string making…
Cannot reliably find bulk slick 8, slick 6 or plain cotton. Bulk meaning 100 string skeins. I still have a decent amount as I stocked up a few years ago when I sensed my supplier was going belly up. (They did ) The bulk string I use has always worked well for me. Never felt a need for boutique string.

So true finding bulk cotton is a challenge
