Hey guys, I recently ordered a Rice Crispies Glow Imperial off of EBay and have noticed that I’m not getting tension in my string when the YoYo is wound up. As I throw it, it tends to kind of just fall straight down instead of unwinding like normal. It was happening with the cotton string it came with, so Ive been using the Sting-Lab Plutonium with it for a while to see if it would fix it, but unfortunately it hasn’t. Just wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this issue. I was thinking thicker string, but don’t know what type or brands to look for. Thanks!

ask the local yoyo boomers, but until they get to this post, my recommendation is to put lip balm on the string loop that goes around the axle of the imperial. i’d try it on a new cotton string, but if that doesn’t work, the old one might

I’ve had not such good luck with plutonium string on my plastic fixie Duncan’s. What I have had good luck with though is Kitty Fat and that standard yellow Zipline string.

Lip balm is always a potential, or if you are trying quick winds, you might want to just do an old school hand wrap to wind the string up and see if you can get a good tight wind around the axle. I have a couple of fixie throws that no matter what I do, if I don’t hand-wind them, they are very loose like that as well, but once you get that tight wrap, it should do well.
Only reason I don’t use balm for those is because when it’s set just right, I like the response they have, haha.
Making the string twist overly tight instead of neutral slack is also something I rely on heavily most of the time.

You want to crank up the torsion in the string pretty high by rotating the throw clockwise with the string unwound. It will respond like this as it gets tighter. Once it gets tight, play with it that way for 5ish minutes, focusing on hard sleepers, pinwheels, around the worlds, basically anything sleeper oriented. That’s should break the string in to where it’s more useable, and you’ll be able to loosen the torsion.
Option 2 is you can play with the string double wrapped on the axle if you can still sleep it in this configuration.
