SS-004 Light Chaser by Sturm Panzer! - 7075 D-Bearing YoYo!

Light-Chaser_Feature
Introducing the SS-004 Light Chaser—a bold new chapter in the Sturm Panzer SS lineup. A sub-brand from the visionary mind of ZhaoYuan Liu (former Team YoYoJam member and the legendary “PHENOM guy”), the SS series—short for “Side Story”—steps outside the main Sturm Panzer Storybook narrative to explore pure passion, innovation, and performance.

The Light Chaser is a premium 7075 aluminum monometal yo-yo designed around the iconic shape of the 2018 RISING PHENOM. It features size D bearings, favored for their unique feel and extended spin, along with a thoughtfully engineered general-purpose M3.5x10mm axle to provide a secure and stable bearing lock. The yo-yo’s V-shape is paired with a compact footprint and dual cap system—one internal and one external—creating a dense, focused spin and offering the nostalgic tactile response of the original PHENOM and RISING PHENOM. The caps are designed to stay firmly in place for optimal performance but are removable at your own discretion for players looking to customize weight or feel.

While many D-bearing throws lean toward lightweight performance, the Light Chaser intentionally goes against the grain with a heavier build. But thanks to its streamlined design and refined weight distribution, it still delivers fast, controlled play with sharp acceleration and minimal drag—proving that weight, when used correctly, becomes a powerful advantage.

As the counterpart to the earlier Star-Chaser, which favored a light and oversized feel, the Light Chaser shifts in the opposite direction—small and powerful—yet both models represent the evolving design ethos of PHENOM Yarou himself.

Outfitted with Sturm Panzer’s CP-06 D9 ball bearing and CP-09 Blade Attack Pad (economy), the Light Chaser is also part of a transitional update to their component system, eventually standardizing parts across future SS releases.

Whether you’re a longtime Sturm Panzer fan or new to the brand’s unique design philosophy, the SS-004 Light Chaser offers an experience rooted in history and honed for modern play—an homage to the PHENOM legacy, built for today’s competitive edge.

It (and the Star Chaser) are described a “H profile” elsewhere.

It seems overwhelmingly V-shaped to me, but I’ve seen so many shapes with a slight step in the profile called H. . .

hah yeah. I can see why it is technically an H Shape because of the design, but definitely more a V than an H, at least in my(story) book lol

regardless plays like a beast and funny it is right on with the D-Bearing trend even thoguh its an oldie, its a goodie!

seems silly to still be using these letter descriptions in the first place as they convey very little info and the waters are so muddied anyway

Absolutely agree! I’ll make an effort to move away from those letter descriptions—especially with international companies where translations can add to the confusion. I’ll focus more on clear info about playability and specs instead!

I think the shape ambiguity is fairly harmless, especially when there is a good profile picture available (thank you YYE for always providing one).

At a glance, I would call this a V. Looking closely, I can see the step and also the curve above it. I don’t think either would win over a V skeptic, but they could definitely be relevant to a buyer (and the designer, certainly).

Edit to add: Calling it an H is why I noticed the details.

I mean, if you can look at the shape of a letter, that’s about all the “translation” that is needed :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: Didn’t mean to come off as much like a smart Alec as I probably did. I just found this part of your comment slightly
