oh he probably just put the knot around his finger lols ;D Just tie a bigger knot.

He just takes a string with a pre-made loop and ties another loop under it to make a slipknot. This way, the original loop will still be hanging off the end unless you cut it off.
So would it be used to shorten the string or something?
