Sickburn Yo-Yo Workshop Ultem Fixie

Oh I didn’t say anything earlier because a lot of folks are waiting on NJ axles but I put the 3/4 spec deepest state compatible Ultem blanks up in the shop.

I’m not admitting to checking your site daily or anything but I noticed lol

The green things are similar to cabal guts but sized to 5mm posts to fit A, D, and MR85 bearings. The difference between them and cabal guts is they also have the seat that the bearing rests on built in and not just the post, so that if they are used for 3d prints they provide a stable rigid seat.

They will be offered to makers stand alone for affordable guts if they end up working well and being affordable. They may also be used on a bearing based Ultem throw some time in the future.

I hope some wood workers try these out if they feel the desire, I bet they’d make for some awesome wooden modern responsive as well

Great work on those, skys the limit with them

Just a little preference thing, but if the brass is gonna be raw, a blast might make it feel a bit chalky and grainy

Yeah I’m conflicted naturally because polished is much prettier but for play most folks prefer blasted to reduce friction for some tricks.

For the fixed axle the blast is also there to improve response and reduce slippage. For the bearing based pocket watch I may end up swapping to electro polished for the production run since that would better fit the pocket watch aesthetic.

I’m dumb, brass gets a wicked cool patina like Copper and nickel right?

Yes, not as aggressive of a patina as pure copper but it will develop an “antique” patina and eventually could develop some blue.

The No Jive axles are now live on Return Bottoms!

That’s the last of the blanks and axles I have planned at the moment.

Time to stock up, woot woot!

I retract that being the last blank I have planned. I ordered some 3/4 spec blanks machined from solid PTFE (aka Teflon).

In theory they will… impregnate… the string with a layer of Teflon after a couple throws leading to much spin. Because of that they would in theory also eventually wear down after some undetermined amount of use.

If they wear down crazy fast or whatever they won’t end up in the shop so it’s gonna be some R&D first.

Now I’m wondering how slippery a Teflon-coated Throw-Yo Ink or Detergent would be…
