That’s pretty cool
That looks great, really. I like the natural color too, but this is definitely cool.
Yeah if they colored reasonably easy I was going to dye a batch to offer some colors to folks but 3 days of boiling is a bit much ![]()
If they actually sell out and there is future demand I’ll do a run of black Ultem though as I can get it made in black without all the boiling.
Oh, cool!
Well, at least it’s nice to know the yoyo can survive a 3 day boil ![]()
Wait. Did we already know that?
It can withstand a continuous 170 Celsius. Well above boil! This was boiled in half alcohol though so maybe we learned a little.
I guess I’m happy to know my YoYo will be able to drink better than I can.
Sickburn Yo-Yo Workshop has a storefront now. I can’t link to it here, but if you somehow stumble across it in google, I made a code for YYE friends. The code YYE when you buy two or more you will get free shipping.
OK, folks. Here’s the results of the “run it over with a car” test.
Unfortunately, it did not survive.
Hahaha! I am
not surprised.
I think that even if the yo-yo was made of steel, the axle would have still bent if not also snapped. I think the true testament to the ultem is that the yo-yo itself didn’t shatter. Very cool. ![]()
Send it my way, let’s see if it likes being epoxied back together lmao
Or wait, does anyone have an FD Stem kit??
I was going to JB Weld it back together!
If it comes my way any time again I’ll gladly drill it and make it a “will it stem” or wasn’t that @GnarlyCharlie ?
I’m also secretly hoping to prove to freshly dirty ultem can make an awesome yoyo
Yessss I’m glad to now know the limit. Also anyone is welcome to epoxy it, drill it, stem it, bop it. Whatever.
Stems, cabal guts, or Druid guts, or something of my own design will likely be the winner if I make a bearing version in the future.
survivalist survived when ran over with a car, gap got squished a bit but axle was not bent and yoyo survived lol
I’ll tip my hat to Glen then. I think survivalist was a 3 piece, that might have been part of it
axle was able to push into the plastic instead of taking the full force. I think it’s made from a somewhat softer shore hardness plastic too that is a little more malleable. Interesting.
I’ll send the broken one off to whoever wants to tinker.
thats 100% correct all around, survivalist was a very soft plastic, recycled hdpe iirc, and 3 piece yoyo.
Good to know! I was eyeballing HDPE for my little home cnc machine I just got, seemed like it’s the easiest plastic to machine in those.
Just got my A-Bearing Ultem Blank order from the fantastic @AudreySickburn (as well as a sweet keychain)!
These things are KILLER! I threw one on a Moonshine 2.0, and it absolutely rocks. Whisper quiet, stellar fixie response, and still a CRAZY long spin time for a blank. I’m glad I got a couple because this one is certainly staying in here, haha. Many many thanks!
