Been chatting with machine shops getting quotes and was told by a machine shop that they think the lowball quote I got (much lower than all the other shops) was likely a mistake where the cheap shop misjudged how much material was needed to machine these, and I should just go order from that shop before they realize they will be losing money on this. So I went and pulled the trigger haha. Order is in.
I kinda believe them because I can’t even get raw Ultem at the price this place quoted for machined.
Chatting with an engineer at one of the shops and they suggested black delrin for bearing blanks after reviewing the use case. Apparently black delrin is more heat resistant, and the self lubricating properties should make it perform well.
Gonna order a batch of mr85, D, and half spec C bearing blanks in black delrin for a lower price point than the Ultem ones. Will probably get Ultem ones for a higher price point too, but nice to have options.
Selected a name and designed packaging. I’m making the packaging myself, it’s a threaded container. The lid is 3d printed around a slice of wood which I am laser engraving. The boxes will be made in an assortment of colors and orders will receive a random color.
Can I just say how grateful I am that you decided to grace this forum with your presence? This is absolutely incredible! Like everything that comes out of the Sickburn yoyo workshop!
Yes they are being bead blasted to reduce stickiness. This shop didn’t offer an option to clean them so if they are dusty I’ll run them all through the dishwasher
