Show Us Where You're Throwing

The cold is back, and with it comes a neat phenomenon with the fountain at the KC temple. The water is heated just enough to keep it from freezing (unless it’s stupid cold or there’s a lot of snow, in which case it’s drained), but the steam rising from the fountain, blown by the wind, freezes to the first surface it comes in contact with, making for some interesting ice formations:

Thanks! This is a difficult area to find. Last year we were close but had to turn back early. It is an easy place to get lost in especially at night.

Glad to know you have the proper sense of self preservation that a person should have. That really is a very cool place!!

Does this rock formation have a name? Looks like a cowboy hat.

That would be a great name for it. They call it the Alien Throne and it is located in the Field of Dreams. This is a tough area to find.

The last few times we have been out there we rescued two different groups of foreign tourists. First one was a Tesla (this area really requires a truck/SUV). Discovered Tesla’s don’t have a spare tire just a patch kit. In our group we had impact wrenches and air compressors and were able to air up a tire with a substantial rip in the sidewall. I was amazed as the driver duct taped the side and the combination of the patch kit and duct tape held. We followed the family out to an area with more hikers and cell service. This area is mostly a cell signal dead zone.

The last time I was out and filmed at the Alien Throne another group of tourists were high centered and the vehicle was facing a downward angle. They really did a great job with getting stuck and the high centered wheel on one side was spinning freely. One of the tourists found a large rock which was useful. I found a few more and added a lot of sagebrush under the wheel. We were able to get them out pushing on the vehicle and using a tow rope on the back. The wanted to give us oranges  we told the to keep the oranges and wished them a safe journey home.

This is probably more than you need to know about the area and visitors. I have another unique location that I am not posting since people will get lost trying to find it and not everyone respects the area.
