Show some plastic yoyos you made

It’s probably a a good idea to come back I have something to show for my efforts.

What do I do here? Give up?

I don’t have the time or decent workspace/ to make decent runs. It’s frustrating. The best I can do is get like 6 at a time in to YYE to sell on the store.

Don’t give up!

Why is this? Couldn’t you just turn a few pieces in a week or so and send YYE a run of 20-30 YoYos every couple of months? Didn’t the Knack sell out almost instantly when you did this???

I’m only trying to offer my perspective as an avid thrower and forum user. To me it just seems more professional and the product will be more desirable and less expensive this way.

Even if it’s not the case, it gives the feeling of desperation when you are posting polls and single YoYos on the bst asking people if they would be willing to buy more than one. I’m in no way suggesting you give up though, only suggesting that you rethink the best way to build your brand. As a customer who has bought multiple SW throws, I only want to see you succeed.

If you create a product you believe in have faith that others will want that product!

Onward and Upward Glen!!!

I want to address this first.

That is not want I was asking. I was asking whether this is a colour that people would have their fill of quickly. Not ‘Please buy more than one of these yoyos’.

As easy as that, right?

Wrong. I have a full-time job that has a never-ending and always replenishing workload that requires a lot of overtime (of which I am not paid). I arrive at school at 7.20 am every morning and leave at about 5.00 pm. Then after dinner, I get the kids ready for bed. Then, I continue working until at least 8.30 pm.

I have about 2-3 hours on average to make yoyos in a normal working week.

Providing everything works out, a Bloodcell takes about 1.5 hours to make. This means a run of just 24 would take me about 20 weeks minimum.

That’s also if I only make a run of one model. That leaves no time left for making new models, testing new materials and general innovation or artistic expression.

The only disposable income I get is from whatever I can make and sell here and there. So if I was to focus only on a run, I basically have no disposable income for many weeks. Perhaps I should actually forgo that just to get my stuff out there in a run.

TBMR seem to be able to pump out loads, why can’t Spinworthy?

There is more to it than this, but last I heard, Colin of TMBR now makes yoyos for a living with his furniture business secondary. I’m not guessing that, Colin himself said this. That was probably over a year ago now, so I’m not sure if his current situation has changed.

He also has more tools to get the job done quicker than me, having his furniture making tools at his disposal. He also has a dedicated and well organised workshop, which I don’t.

These things are a challenge, but I hope it explains my situation better and why I have been doing things this way. I don’t want to though.

I dont know what your long term goals are with Spinworthy. I dont know how the process works to sell yoyos on YYE. With that being said, here we go.

Why not just make 1 run of yoyos a year for sale by YYE and take the 20+ weeks to make them. Doesnt matter if that’s 20 weeks in a row or spread out when you feel like cranking out yoyos. During the rest of the time, keep innovating your yoyos, learn new techniques, make that beautiful one off piece of art. I dont want you to stress about this and lose the love for it. You have talent. You work hard to hone that skill.

This is very surprising to hear. Seems like a small volume of yoyos for that

He’s made a lot of yoyos over the past year or so. But still, it is surprising.

Not more then any plastic throw. I have now about 50 throws done. So I know my models and my printer settings. Even with very quick print/quality I can manage results which are comparable to a replay pro. If I crank up the settings it gets even smoother.

From what I’ve heard from you and @jeffreypang911, it seems that 3D printed yoyos yoyos can be really smooth! I always figured that making round objects needed to be turned to be smooth.

What model printer are you using, @Kray ?
