Has anyone tried removing engravings from a stainless steel yoyo?
I was thinking about trying the power drill + sandpaper method, but I feel like it wouldn’t work since you need to actually remove a thin layer of stainless steel (?) But I would love to be wrong–let me know if you’ve tried!
Yeah you will have to remove material till it’s gone, and then polish the heck out of it. And it being stainless…. You’ll be there a while
I’d try using 600grit sandpaper while the half is mounted on drill until engravings gone. Then, like Kyle said, go through the steps of polishing.
SS can take forever if you want any sanding lines completely gone, but I’ve been satisfied in the past stopping at 2000/3000grit followed by going over the surface with steel wool. The ring will now have a satin finish that’s way friendlier to skin contact and grinds.
Thanks so much for this info! Still on the fence about whether it’s worth the effort. But I’ll post some before and after shots if I decide to go through with it.
