I have pretty sweaty hands and my throws with engravings, especially engravings on or near the rims, tend to get dirty pretty quick. Does anyone know if there are any ways to clean them?
Toothbrush? Dry magic eraser?
soap and water and a soft brush should be fine
maybe you could also try yoyo gloves to prevent it in the future
*edit: just take the bearing out first as you probably want to keep it dry
you can also clean the bearing seat with a q-tip as an optional bonus
I’ve tried soap, aceton, lighter fluid. Nothing works at getting white engravings that turned grey back to white.
So I’m following this thread.
I’m assuming by dirty you mean the engravings have started to oxidize and look a little splotchy. You’re not going to be able to clean that up without also removing the anodization.
a damp magic eraser works incredibly well for this.
I wash the halves with a little soap and water and while it’s still wet scrub the engravings gently with a magic eraser
I’ve tried a toothbrush with no results, i will give magic erasers a try though. Thanks!
I’m not sure how quickly engravings oxidize, I’ve had the yoyo for only a couple months, but I imagine sweat would speed up that process. It doesn’t look splotchy necessarily, just grey.
Have you noticed the magic eraser doing any damage to the anodization?
I use degreaser cleaner (easy off, greased lightning, etc) heavily diluted with water and use cotton swabs to scrub over the engraving followed by quickly rinsing off the cleaner with water.
sodium hydroxide in the cleaner will clean the engraving but will affect the anodization around it if too concentrated + left on the surface for too long
I have yet to cause damage, and I’ve cleaned my OG joyride which scratches if I look at it wrong
You’ve ruined my entire day by mentioning dry magic eraser on metal. THE SOUND. IT WONT GO AWAY NOW. IT’S ALL I HEAR.
Dry magic erasers take grubby pawprints off everything, figured it would work here too. RIP to your ears.
Damp ME are also effective lol
yea we used magic erasers on the job site cuz itd take greasy fingerprints off of the bright white sheet rock. it does have minor abrasives though so dont scrub too hard at the ano. it’ll take layers off a little at a time
