He took some absolutely amazing yoyo photos, I hope he can rest easy knowing his work will continue to inspire others.
Man this is such sad news to hear. I saw it on instagram a little bit ago. He always joked about being an old man yoyoing. Definitely going to miss him and his art. He’s been a huge part of the community for years. We go way back! We should all be lucky he shared as much of his photography with us as he did. Definitely need to archive and preserve his galleries.
R.I.P.
It was the biggest influence on me, motivating me to start my Flickr account.
I was defeated by this news. Impossible to type anymore. RIP.
RIP to the goat of #oldmanyoyoing
Been such a fan of his photography work since I really started getting into yoyo and loved how he was always progressing in his play when not sharing his dope photos.
You’ll be missed Shawn ![]()
This is such sad news. He was truly iconic.
I made this on my wall tracing out one of his photographs.

This is definitely sad to hear. Amazing contributor to the community. I was just glancing at his BST post the other day casually enjoying the high quality images he had posted even there.
This sad news indeed. RIP Shawn. ![]()
Thank you for sharing this here @docpop. This is so heartbreaking - I always looked forward to every post he made and I had some really wonderful conversations with him over the years.
You could tell he really loved yoyoing and the community around it. A true loss.
I think it would be nice to hold an annual photo contest of some kind in his honor, anyone know when his birthday was?
Edit: we could make June 13th the draw date, that was his cake day, I’m gonna brain storm a bit for ideas on how to set it up
Dang, sad news. I too remember him from the old days and was stoked by his recent posts most of the time. RIP buddy!
Oh man…so sad to hear…
Shawn really had an amazing eye for lighting and composition. Every photo he took was planned/ executed perfectly. And in the saturated world of photography his photos were INSTANTLY recognizable and stood out. He was a true talent and will be missed…
Damn… that caught me off guard.
I didn’t know him personally, but his photography was truly something special — some of the best yo-yo photos I’ve ever seen. He had a way of making every shot feel alive, like you could almost feel the motion.
His work inspired so many people, including me.
Rest in peace, Shawn. Your art will always be remembered.
It’s been nice seeing all of these memories shared of Shawn and his influence on our community. I’ve heard from the family that they really appreciate reading comments like these on social media and that there’s nothing else they need in terms of support at the moment.
I loved sending my yoyos to Shawn. He was always very kind and generous with his time, and took a lot of fantastic photos (and filmed trick circles!) with my designs.
Here’s some of my favorite photos he took for me.
That man was a magician with a camera
