Problem with my string

My strings can’t do trick laceration like hooks. When I swing my string, it goes very weak and cannot hook. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Hmmm I haven’t tried those and think I had better let some of the more experienced players answer this one…

Hope to don’t appear rude but more than the string I think it’s your wrist/strength in the hand that has to still to develop more.

Never met in my life a string not able to do something, the fault was always mine, 84 strings are perfectly fine I had one in my Recognition and was actually a very good string.

Practice, practice, practice my friend

When I use the nobrand string it is completely hooked and I am not really familiar with the 84string because I only used it 3 days ago.

While I do agree, I will say some strings make it easier to learn to land a trick…

I have to be honest in my “career” I never took care of material or brand of the string I always had various random stuff and I just thought about my technique instead of get stuck in this brand or the other, this yoyo or the other.
While is true that some material/thickness help with a more fast rotation, is just a little help and not a game changer, at the end of the day is still the technique that matter.

This is still my opinion as a player and also my opinion as someone that tried many different stuff, I think it’s 10% the gear 90% your hands, same thing I seen in the classical guitar world and other hobbies I had.

84 strings is the string that come with the recognition (I think you have it if I am not wrong), I had no issues at all with that string, it seemed a normal bulk string.

There is string so bad it makes the whole yoyo experience bad. Usually said string is from certain places that create knock off versions if more popular yo-yos. I have a bag of string that’s essentially cat use cause I won’t use it on a yoyo.

84string is definitely good enough for any whip tricks you want to do, have used it plenty myself before. Nylon based strings tend to be more whippy, so maybe you had some of that before. I’d recommend just holding your yoyo dead in your non-throwhand roughly where it would be for a basic hook and practicing the whip motion until you can get the string to come around consistently.

I’d say post a vid for us to better diagnose the issue.

It’s pretty common for people to apply abrupt force like they’d assume would be best for whipping motions, but it’s often the case that it’s not about the abruptness of the motion, but how big your range of whipping motion it is for lacerations. Of course both aspects are important, but for now I’d say try making the whipping motion larger.

This rings true to my experiences and a good tip that helped me get better at whipping the string was shinya kido saying whip from the shoulder in a tutorial…that helped me improve.
