Hi!
I’ve been starting loops since late 2011 and up till few days ago I’ve been using a pair of loop 720 (modded, which basically make the gap closer but the string response thinner) and the loops is going “rounder” than usual. Then few days ago I bought a pair of Raiders and start modding it in my own way. I sanded the bearing seat instead to make the gap closer, so it’s actually “Raider-Ex-ing the Raiders”. I have the plastic spacers too but I don’t think I need it right now…
I have a question related to this.
Is it natural to let the string touch the starburst upon sleeping? I made my own string and I can make it the way I wanted. When I make it medium sized, the string doesn’t touch the starburst at all, it’s really close. The loop is a little upward and heavy, but I know how to change how I flick my finger so it’s still under control, although the loop is way less unforgiving. Each time I messed up a bit, some part of the string which have just wind up, loses its grip, slide, and make a screeching noise, and ends sleeping.
the problem looks similar to this:
look @1:30-1:34
When I use thicker string, the string is always slightly touching the starburst so when I do a sleeper, I can feel it grinding a bit. The loop is way easier and much more controllable, but is it a good idea to use this setting? Since I’ll probably start learning wraps in the next few months and I’m wondering if it is really affect the way it sleeps. But if the thinner string should works better, I’ll start learning it that way.
The thing is, I don’t want to continue to practice in the inefficient/wrong way… or else all my time and effort will end nowhere. Any help would be appreciated.
