Introducing Perspective, the signature yo-yo of One Drop team member Jordan Hacherl! Known for his creativity and precision, Jordan’s first signature model brings his innovative vision to life.
Crafted in collaboration with Shawn (The Machinist) Perspective features intentionally different halves: one rounded and curvy, the other angular and straight. Despite the contrasting shapes, the yo-yo is perfectly balanced, offering smooth, stable performance with identical specs across both halves. It’s a design that challenges convention while delivering an exceptional play experience.
Jordan shares:
“Perspective is about balance and harmony, inspired by the duality of earth and sky, mountains and clouds. It’s designed to encourage players to explore new dimensions in their tricks and rethink the way they approach yo-yoing.”
More than just a yo-yo, Perspective is a tool for creativity and a statement of innovation. Ready to see the game from a new angle?
I mentioned this prolly a few years ago… but there was a guy(From Indonesia thereabouts) that did at least a few videos, using yo-yos with dissimilar halves.
The word seemed to spread before many people even watched his videos.
He just thought it was fun… And after more people viewed his yo-yo videos, they realized he was no joke.
As part of my ‘modding adventures) I naturally had to switch around some various yo-yo halves. Amazingly, some of the results defied explanation.
A few of the experiments I did… The halves not only varied in shape, But varied in weight. And the yo-yos Would spin smoother than some of my yo-yos with matching halves.
It’s quite interesting to look at something that’s asymmetrical and just shake your head in a no configuration. Because many people are programmed to make things symmetrical.
Besides considering one drop as a yo-yo company, you have to look a little deeper and consider the company is run by two guys that I’ve always been ‘modders’.
Every once in a while, it’s probably just easier to show something can be done successfully them to try to explain to them that it would probably work but with nothing to show for the theory.
The perspective simply shows that a playful theory can be successfully turned in to a functional reality with excellent results.
Outside the box is nothing more than a special room located in a building in Eugene, Oregon. If you ever make it up there… Just ask for David or Shawn. They will guide you into the light.
I really like this yo-yo. I think the design does an excellent job of misdirecting expectation.
The play itself is pretty conventional (and good!). I don’t find that it has any particular quirks, e.g. wildly different rejections from one half to the other, tendency to precess etc. The weight distributions are calculated for balance, and despite the profile differences, the areas that interact with the string are fairly similar, especially the response bump. Even the rim, though one is convex and the other straight , are not dramatically different, IMO.
All of this is contrary to the visual and tactile perception, which I find hard to shake even though I know all of the above. Wether this is thought-provoking, amusing, annoying, distracting etc. could differ from person to person.
There are probably players who could detect a difference that would require some strategy to sync their tricks with a specific half. I think this would be pretty cool.
I think this is one of the few “proof of concept” yoyo designs that is genuinely interesting.
A lot of them can be cool, but are often just variations on extreme dimensions or unique material or weight distribution of particular material combinations in different placements.
But at the end of the day they don’t really challenge the perception of what a yo-yo looks like. You don’t have to explain to a non-yo-yoer what makes this yoyo different.
It seems like you guys are very intentional when you decide to make a new yoyo and I think this yoyo fits into that philosophy well.
I have one from when they released and for everyone that’s bothered by it, just ignore the look. It is an AMAZING yoyo. You should already know that, because OD made it and everything they put out is amazing. Jordan is awesome, the guys at OneDrop are awesome and this yoyo is awesome.
