I picked my yo-yo’s back up about a year ago, all responsive and was surprised at how many tricks I still remembered. I was gifted a Duncan roadrunner and barracuda to start my unresponsive collection and have since added a couple majesty’s, Legato 2, Xenon , Outlier+ and outlier mini. I think I’m set up pretty good now, but the collector bug is buzzing around lately.
Before it bites I need to build up a parts kit. Other than the obvious extra strings and small jar of acetone for cleaning bearings, lube and couple sets of spare response pads that came with my throws already in my kit is there anything else I should have on hand or get more of that wears out fast? I average about an hour of throw time a day.
Any throws out there not worth adding to the collection unless I need another paperweight?
Grab a bearing remover also. Idk if asking what not to buy will be productive. Better to know that you have enough yoyos already but if you want something else, go for it. Yoyos are just preference really
I didn’t think about something like YYFs Yoyo tool.
I actually have a metal Yoyo probably from the late 80’s that I would consider dangerous to throw. No markings on it and o can’t remember where I got it but it’s a fixed axle, heavy and loves to snap strings at the axle loop. Still has broken strings in the box and a pic of my bedroom window where it went through. Body is made out of stainless steel.
I’d recommend a bag or portable storage option of some kind. Also, a new bearing and a set of pads can completely change how a YoYo feels and plays, I have totally revitalized a couple of duds with a good bearing when I didn’t even really suspect the bearing that was in it was all that bad.
As for yo-yos to avoid? Well… many will say the DV888 is a horrible YoYo, but I had one and it was actually pretty decent. I learned a tricks on it even. But there is for sure better throws for the money, I get that. I got mine new for $20 and did not feel like I wasted my money. I gifted it to my nephew for Christmas and he loved it.
It really comes down to personal preference, the come, they go, the ones you really click with tend to stick around longer I think.
