NSK Bearing debunk

Does anyone here own a Platinum bearing?
I vaguely remember a post on the YoYo BST a few years ago (but I can’t find the original) stating that you shouldn’t clean it with lighter fluid, or the coating will wear out.

I just bought five from Japan, and I’m worried about them getting dirty after heavy use/play. Do they need to be cleaned or is it unnecessary?

I’ve cleaned mine plenty and they work fine.

I bought 2 of these and both of them got completley locked up after about 50 mins of play, and only started spinning again only after I cleaned them, so cleaning might be necessary for you. I don’t think that there are any defects so it’s probably fine to clean them

Really? They “locked-up” after 50 minutes of play? If true; these bearings do not need to be cleaned, they need to be returned for a refund.

If the bearings have their shields, there is no need to clean them. They are lubricated at the factory. Opening them for “cleaning” will just expose the bearings to grime and dirt as well as stripping the factory lubricant.

The term lighter-fluid can refer to many different kinds of fluids. Most contain nasty hydrocarbons that may cause cancer. To me it seems safer to pay $20 for a new one if it goes bad.

yeah, i was playing in a pretty humid area and I throw pretty hard though

Also now that I think about it I probably did play with it for more than 50 mins

Before they locked up though they were really good and silent
