I’ve been throwing Yoyo’s for 20 years or so off and on and I also got into Kendama’s a bit after the pandemic, but I’ve just recently became interested in spin tops and I am having a blast so far! I even have the marks on my fridge and ceiling to prove it!
I can do boomerang, merry go round and I’m working on cork screw currently. I need to figure out what to learn next, so if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to chime in.
This is my collection after about 2 and a half weeks into the hobby. I’ve also got a couple of Rosalinda’s coming as well, along with a 3D printed spin top from @TryCatchThrow
My suggestion is to watch these guys on YouTube and instagram and just try what you think looks interesting. Some tricks include elements you can pick up even if you can’t nail the entire trick.
Nice collection you have started there!
Spin tops are offered in some wide extremes, if you don’t know how to throw, I’d suggest the YYF tops available here. I don’t play bearing tops, but the YYF bearing top is ok for the money, the fixed tip is actually pretty cool, of course I don’t like the string or the button
Definitely agree with Kevin. If you’re just learning you want a top that can take massive abuse. The Short Circuit is tough as nails, plays great, and it’s very affordable.
You have a great collection going so far! Rosalinda is pretty cool, just feels super light to me and you definitely can’t go wrong with Keith’s 3D printed ones!
YYF short circuit is unbelievable performance for $6. If you can swing it just get the short circuit and the Elektrick. Get the best of both worlds for under $20
Yes, they are the Strummol8 Alice and they are fixed tip, but I wouldn’t recommend starting out with them. They are a bit smaller and harder to throw imo.
I would personally recommend a bearing spin top when starting out, like a YYF Elec-trick or Spintastics Trompo bearing or similar.
The Strummol8’s are amazing as well, but they are not cheap, but they are high quality.
