New Hobbies or Pets Since COVID-19?

because of the spice? :joy:

Yea man, it was crazy! When I threw the peppers into the pan, the vapors of the peppers got really intense and I quickly wrapped a cloth knapkin around my face so that I could finish the cooking. Despite the oven fan running on high, the vapors were just too intense. Id rather not have to get into a hazmat suit to make ingredients, lol :mask:

huh, i never thought of that! how’d you make the hot sauce?

I made one with Caronlina reapers and strawberries by cooking it with the ingredients and simmering it in the pan for like 20 minutes. After that I decided to just dry out the rest of the peppers and grind them up. I was planning on making more hot sauce, but my family said no cause it stunk up the house way too much. Even grinding them up required using a mask.

Yes, and also just because chickens are great  :rooster: :hatched_chick:

We used to care for chickens on somebody else’s property, and we’ve been wanting to raise some of our own for a while.

Are going to have a coop or a tractor?

A “chickshaw”

A small mobile coop on wheels + a movable poultry net. So we can rotate them in the yard to prevent them from tearing up the lawn/ give them access to fresh grass.

Hm, for some reason I thought that you were vegan…

Well, I guess I’ll tell you my opinions anyways. I used to own egg laying chickens and will recommend that if you want delicious eggs, feed them well. We used to feed our chickens flax seeds, cranberries, and blueberries (usually organic) along with the normal feed. Trust me, it makes a difference. I don’t eat eggs anymore since we had a weasel come to town and kill ~40 chickens in less than 2 weeks since im forever spoiled by eating good eggs.

I was a vegetarian for a while, but once I realized that there were more humane options available for consumption [as opposed to CAFOs/ big AG], it was a slippery slope!

We intend to! We compost a lot of out green waste anyway, so it’ll be a nice way to put some of that to use. We’re shooting for a sustainable model.

That’s what I thought a chicken “Tractor” was. Is “chickshaw” another name for the same thing, or something a bit different?

Yeah, it’s conceptual similar. Just a different way to skin the cat I suppose. Or dare I say, skin the gerbil

I missed the window this year from seeds unless I want to go indoors. Might find some plants? Didn’t get to build my planter box either.

You can feed the chickens hot peppers since they don’t have the receptors to taste them or hurt their digestive tract. You can however give them red to bright orange red yolks! They say you can’t taste the capsicum, which I would have loved, but others have reported a slight taste, although I think that’s been debunked by studies.

I remember the old photos of Dave and Blair having to mix sauces in respirators and hazmat suits. Part publicity stunt, part necessary on the hottest ones.

Wide bands to a small taper are ‘speed’ bands I think they’re called. Don’t last as long as flat bands on a per shot basis, but these can fling a 3/8" well over 200fps at my draw length.

The cans. The large/little bits torn off are always interesting.

I’ve posted this one elsewhere, but some cans are like abstract art to me.

I realised I talked about this without a way to actually get on, lol.

Tried my hand at some anodizing in the past few weeks. Still working out some kinks but pretty happy overall.

They look great!

Yeah, you should be proud of those!

This was almost exactly my experience a few years ago. Maybe I’m glad I’m not the only one.

That anodizing looks great! Fades look nice and smooth. Keep it up.

There’s a tradition of leaving fresh cut logs by the side of the street where I live, so this weekend I learned how to use both a chainsaw and splitting maul. It’s pretty fun watching big rounds of wood getting split down for the wood fire stove. A lot of work, but since I never go to the gym this was my excuse for exercise.

I don’t think I ever shared this but I have a beagador, short for beagle-lab mix. Her name’s shadow she is so adorable. When you pet her stomach, she wheezes.
