Never been unscrewed, who cares?

I always unscrew it to change the string. I don’t like untwisting the string enough to get it on with the yoyo together.

I usually assume when someone says “its never been unscrewed” means it has very little play time on it.

the way i see it is like this: if unscrewing a yoyo would damage it then yoyos wouldnt be able to be unscrewed in the first place. the only real thing that happens when you unscrew a yoyo is loosening the axle and one drop of thread lock will solve that problem

I consider myself a little bit of a vibe stickler but even I immediately unscrew every new yoyo I get to clean and lube the bearing, make sure everything’s all good with the axle and thread etc lol

With every yoyo I get, I play it for a few minutes to asses the “new” condition. Then I unscrew it to examine the internals. After that, I only unscrew a yoyo for bearing maintenance (which is fortunately rare).

I’ve yet to have a yoyo degrade in performance between the first throw and unscrewing/screwing it back together.

Almost an irrational fear. What could we even call this phobia?

@Chriscatastrophe @Albertino I’m not doing tech and still on a rare occasion have to unscrew to get the knot out. Mostly happens with nylon string when I’m not managing torsion well and the loop twists in grabbing some string which then tightens upon bind/return. A lot of times I can get those out with a pick but sometimes not and the in-between happens too where I could get it out, but it would fray the string a bit, so better to unscrew.

And as cavalier as I am about unscrewing when needed, I obviously don’t do it if I don’t need to. That would be a waste of time that I could otherwise be yoyoing (or reading here).
