I learned this trick by watching a fellow by the name of gerard amento, or “grawrd” He has a website, and a channel on youtube.

To learn it, you essentially have to understand what is going on. The best way to do this is to follow along with a video while you are manipulating the yoyo and string to do what you want it to. Popping it into the air is easy, but you have to understand what your arms are doing while it’s popped.

make sure when you cross your finger you hit the string with your finger
