My SR-71 is coming apart at the seams.

How it happened is not important. A jarring impact has caused my SR-71, it seems, to come apart where plastic and metal meet on one half. I can see light between the pieces, but I can’t see anyway to get them back together. Also, the axle no longer tightens into a locked position. It will keep turning after it is fully tightened. It will still play, but it is obviously not as smooth. What should I do? Should I try to get the pieces back together some how, or just leave it as is?

I suppose this post will serve as a warning not to smack your YYJ bi-metals into solid objects, heh heh.

I guess there is nothing much you can do except use hot glue to get eh plastic and metal back together. As for the screwing problem, if the problem lies with the axle, you can change it, but if it lies with the threads in the yoyo, I don’t think you can do anything about it.

I don’t know if this site’s yoyos contain warrenty, but if they do, you might be able to return it and get a new one by contacting yoyojam… If that’s not possible, I’d just do what Cinimod said; just use hot glue to get the plastic and metal back together. And as for the axle, they are pretty cheap. I’d just buy a new one to play it safe… but if it is the threads INSIDE the yoyo [where the axle screws in], there IS nothing you can do about it except buy a whole new yoyo.

Good Luck. Hope for warrenty…

You’re honestly pretty much out of luck. Hot glue might work, but only temporarily. Might as well try it I guess.

As far as the axle goes, it’s stripped somewhere. You can search the forums for stripped axle, and end up just retapping the inside and getting a new axle.

Have you checked for any warranty, I doubt it would work for you since it was caused by you, but you could try on the grounds that banging it on a hard surface shouldn’t do that much damage (unless you played hammer of thor with it)

From what I’ve heard it’s the new Yoyojam design. I smacked my DM 1, full throw, against concrete and it survived.

Warranty??
If you damage your car in a jarring impact would you seriously take it back to the dealer or manufacturer and expect them to fix it?

If I sat on the car and the hood collapsed, yes.
Honestly, I don’t remember YYJ being so easily breakable. My DM 1 has been through tons of impacts… and it’s still there. I’ve dropped it, slammed it on concrete a couple times, and nothing happens. Except dings.

You really think they would fix it for free if you sat on the hood of all places and it dented? Lol I really doubt that would work well for you.

You get the point >:(

Yoyos are supposed to be able to stand that kind of impact right?

NEW ANALOGY: If you bought a thermos and it melted when you put in hot cocoa.

Probably not.

OH… I always thought a couple of bangs shouldn’t stop a yoyo… none of mine have ever broken because of impact…

yoyo’s are designed to play not get beaten.

To the OP. Hot glue ins’t the best option because it will add some weight and the procession will get worse.
I’d suggest super glue from gorilla glue. It’s great for plastic to metal adhesion. Problem lies in getting the two pieces back together.

Make sure you try it with the yoyo taken apart.

Also on the axle, If it’s the axle nut (insert) that is spinning, try a few dabs of superglue around the seam of it. Hopefully it will flow down in between the two parts and adhere. Other than that I’m not sure unless I had it in my hand. If you can’t fix it I want it.

I know you probably couldn’t help it, but one way to fix it is to not let the impact happen in the first place. :stuck_out_tongue:

Amen! Could you upload pics?

That happened to me about four years ago with my X Con. There really is nothing you can do, but get a new yoyo. I know it sucks.

For me I slammed it about three times against the ground on a break away and it finally gave in. You also could have bent or striped the nut in the hub. Thats a possibility why it doesn’t tighten up.
