NM doesnā€™t have a lot of cardinals. Thereā€™s a native species of desert cardinal here, but itā€™s almost never seen where I live. Iā€™m keeping an eye out this year though, lots of birds out right now.

Do you know what they are?
Iā€™m guessing Mockingbirds. Though I could be so far off, as I am not some sort of educated bird person.

Theyā€™re robins, I see the parents giving me the stink eye every time I open the door

Desert cardinal sounds sick!

I have been seeing an unusual amount of animal activity this spring. I think the odds are in your favor.

Me and my gal watched a fox family, two adults, five kits, run around and play chase for like an hour the other night in our back yard. We also have a deer highway back there and a resident groundhog who has been very active. We also get to watch lots of squirrel vs. robin vs. bluejay battle royales. Half of our neighborhood squirrels have little stubby tails from their fights. Or maybe predators. There are also lots of big birds like owls, hawks, eagles (rare), and turkey vultures.

Whatā€™s especially crazy about all that is, we live in a small city.

Iā€™m only just now realizing how lucky I am with the wild life front. Thanks for helping me recognize that.

Itā€™s so hard to tell when theyā€™re that size. We just started using our side door.

I usually use the garage door, but I insist on my having my coffee on the patio in the morningsā€¦ I like to think they have grown to tolerate me

We lost our eggsā€¦

One morning we came out, and the nest was completely empty.

Actually this morning it appears that the nest was destroyed and the baby birds all killed overnight. :pensive:
Nature can be very cruel.

I had this happen yesterday with a house wren nest. Such a bummer. I spent so much energy and time keeping my cats away, but they got let out yesterday evening while I was gone, and of course thatā€™s when mom and dad decided to try and push the two babies out of the nest. I was a little frustrated and a lot sad :disappointed:

I definitely saddened me, my wife, and daughter. We have quite a few stray cats in the neighborhood and I feel certain thatā€™s what got it. Of course there are foxes too.
