Most painful tricks to learn?

Hitting yourself with your yoyo as you learn new tricks is inevitable. It can also hurt, depending on the yo and the motion of the trick. However, some tricks are more prone to causing hand dinging or other such events than others. For example, I’m trying to learn how to whip into kamikaze. I have accidentally punched my yoyo quite a few times as I’m learning this. It hurts as I forgot to bring a plastic yo with me to work and instead decided to bring the brickiest, densest yoyo I own (Valkyrie time). Punching this is not pleasant, unsurprisingly.

What tricks can you think of where you are more prone to dinging yourself than usual?

Bind tricks probably, snags are common when learning them

Back in the day, when yoyos were responsive, the trick, “Suicide” would sting your knuckles a bit when the string would bite.

Neck and body tricks probably. I’ve bonked myself in the head on neck stole a couple of times and that has turned me off of it for now.

The two worst times I injured myself was when I was trying to do rail combos really fast. Both times I just slapped the yoyo off the string and right at my face.

Edit: Beefhook is an emotionally painful trick.

This is not a trick but a failure on my part when throwing my yo-yos.

Not clearing my throw

When I do not clear my yo-yo with a moderately powered throw after a questionable bind.

The next attempt to do a trick will be a gamble whether or not the throw will come back fast and hit me or be a clean throw.

I know get better at binds… well every thing
Working on it.

Everyone have a great rest of the week

I don’t know if I’m unique in this situation but this was my hand some months back when I was learning 1.5 mount :smiling_face_with_tear: I was determined haha. I don’t know why but I seem to hurt myself the most when using my iYoYo passion.

You know I saw this pic when you first posted it and I’m still confused as to how you hit that part of your hand, that hard, with a 1.5.

Binds. And once you actually start binding you think you’re all fancy trying to do fancy binds and your knuckles will not thank you. But hey, it’s works eventually.

I completely kept missing the string and hitting my hand…many many times :sob: maybe I wasn’t ready to learn 1.5 but it worked out haha. Thinking on it, I also beat the heck out of my knuckles learning barrel rolls with my responsive YYF whip. I guess you could say my yoyo moto back then was “no pain, no gain”.

@Luke_Renner has a story about shooting the moon… and rushing to the dentist.

I would say, doing a side style, bind and trying to catch the yo-yo in your teeth.

I can see that register on the pain scale…

Every time I try body, over head tricks and arm horizontal trick, I think after a while that happen I stopped to be “scared” at all, if happen happen lol I receive the yoyo on my head so many times that it’s just ok now lol
The only thing that really drive me insane is the string snag doing a trick, I really hate that feeling

I learned kwijibo on a responsive yomega hyper warp wing. 1/10 would not recommend.

I managed to hurt myself plenty this past month just learning beef hook. Sometimes the slack id throw would be thrown so poorly itd bind and then instantly hit my finger that i have been holding so straight in hopes to land the hook.

I can comfortably say that i havent failed the hook that bad in a week now lmao

The Zipper. Not so much the learning part as the showing-off-in-the-bar-after-six-or-nine-drinks part. That yoyo zeros in on the nether regions like a homing missile.
