Sounded like hostility to me. Like I said, I can’t imagine even being annoyed by it. Someone’s showing interest in something I love… how can that be annoying?
Coming from adults I actually like throwing in front of adults, and I don’t get “can you walk the dog” when adults ask me to do a specific trick. They actually treat me like a young adult not like a 13 year old playing with a yoyo. But when it comes to kids my age that’s when all goes bad.
The thing is, most people pick up a yoyo during their childhood and fail to get it back up to their hand. Thus, many choose not to yo-yo so when they see a yo-yoist, they feel the need to act like a complete brainless idiot and ask “can you walk teh dogg”
I don’t get annoyed by much people when I throw, other than friends, but that’s just because they learned a basic bind and like to do it. The only people who come up to me are other throwers, they’re littered about in my school, and it’s always nice to meet a fellow player. I don’t mind handing out throws for people to play with really, a ding is just a ding, I keep the expensive stuff at home.
does (insert technical trick here)
non thrower comes up to you

The Zombies have bought up that yoyo as a weapon crap a few times already but mostly the response I’ve been getting has been GREAT. I can only do a few things so far but I have already been WOWing people ;D
Gets kind of annoying when people keep asking me to “do the one where you jump over it” (a rather gimmicky behind-the-back gyro flop that I mastered ages ago). At least they remembered something, though
nothing… they’re trying to relate to me and i appreciate that so why get all egotistical and annoyed? they’re not throwers so it’s understandable that they don’t know how modern yoyos work and what they are… some of you guys act like they’re suppose to have the same amount of knowledge in yoyos as you do.
anyway i dont throw in public so i never have to deal with negative remarks. but the people who have seen me just ask if they can try it and i let them and ask me how it spins so long etc etc and i answer their questions. i’ve had my throws accidentally hit the floor several times and this girl once walked the dog on concrete. i was meh about it. i didnt really care.
oh i’ve had one boy comment and say that yoyoing was “gay” and i was more annoyed about how ignorant he was by using that word/looking down on others with different hobbies rather than the fact he was a non thrower blah blah you get the idea
I hate when people say, 'Oh look, its a duncan butterfly!" when in reality I’m holding a full metal CLYW throw.
No its not a duncan butterfly.
Its a modified butterfly shape
but not a duncan butterfly.
You know I sort of agree with you about people being curious but not having the knowledge…but then again, to make a crude analogy, it would be like someone going up to some legendary guitarist like Jimmy Page or Slash and asking, “Is that a guitar that plays all the notes for you?”
Sort of. Guitarists DO get it all the time, but mostly from other guitarists. “Your strings are so thin… that’s like cheating, man. Why is your action so low? Those two things mean you got no TONE.” Blah blah.
Or with the recent advent of self-tuning guitars, “That’s cheating! Why not just get out a tuning fork for your “A” and do the rest by ear. You’re not a real guitarist if you use these robots, man.”
