Bulk polyester are very slow.it is better to learn slack with. But for whip, fast string is better, you need less strength.
IMO
The FAT proto is written or 28 is written.
Maybe thomas get it during the yoyo meet

It is 7 pass (x4) instead of 6 pass (x4)
Ah, then I must have missed that one ![]()
To come back on the subject of the 1.5 hook, quick tip that might help to get used to the whip motion:
At first I would completely ignore the NTH part and just try to hook it around my TH index. I never succeeded but after a while the movement felt more natural and I just added the NTH index part to it.
Ok. Makes a bit more sense.
Yup. When making string, one pass is equal to four thread count. It goes down and back, then doubled over. Math!!!
love reactions like this!
Lol, that look on your face was priceless. Don’t worry, it’s not too difficult a trick, but it takes a lot of practice to manage to land it consistently.
I must have tried several hundred times before I landed my first one. I was using Kitty string at the time, and that was the first time I saw how much difference there is between typical poly when it’s fresh and when it’s been used for only 20 or 30 minutes. It completely changes the timing and the speed required to land the 1.5 hook.
I actually use 1.5 hook as a litmus test for every string I try—it’s the easiest trick I know that really tests that particular property of a string’s whippiness, I.e. maintaining momentum around hooks.
Heh, /text wall
A very interesting text wall.
Now you’re getting me excited to “git gud” at this trick so that I can try it with all my different strings! ![]()
i’m so darn happy i’m not the only person in the world that says “get gud” lmao.
Lol! My days trolling in Dark Souls and other video games might be behind me but the vocabulary isn’t going anywhere ![]()
Ok…i landed 1 hook. Between this week and week 16… yes first hook was week 16… hook 2 is week 32. Thankfully we don’t have enough weeks for another hook.
Im at .0001% at attempts. But i landed 1.
What helps me with 1.5 hooks is mainly what I do with my NTH. I try to grab the inner string almost straight under the yoyo. It helps the string maintain momentum even if you are using bad string.
I can’t do this hook - tried it 1 year ago - tried it again, even taped my yoyo to the wall - big sad boi hours
Ive regressed lol. Yesterday I was getting them up to about 1 in 5 but have only landed one all day…Its kinda surprising how much worse my play is on a frustrating/down day.
I had a similar experience with other hooks where it just clicked one day after countless failures so definitely not giving up hope on this
Keep at it…i landed one successfully. So i kept at it… with video. 8 min of video. One successful landing. Hooks are down there with finger spins for me.
1.5 hook I’ll start attending it tomorrow. Maybe
Evolution of my yoyo shelf…
Trick sheet that ive been working on since the start of TaW. Lately it seems impossible to go through all the tricks in one session. But when im in the groove i can work through most of it successfully in about 30 min. More often then not i end up freestyling inbetween tricks and it’s time for bed…
I think I might be able to help with hook…
I think you are popping way to high so the slack is having trouble getting in the gap of the yo-yo. The first couple of pops went way over your nth, which makes it really hard to get the slack in there. Hope this helps!
Interesting. I thought i need a high pop. Ill try that. Thanks.
If you do pop it high you want to be bringing your nth finger up along with it.
1.5 hook. This only took 4 minutes to land cleanly on camera. TH index chopping the string down into the gap is key for me.
Thanks @MarkD! I’ve never seen it done that way, but that works great with slower string. It’s nice how it takes less effort with the initial slack motion too.
