My brother asked me why the metal yoyo’s are so much more expensive then the plastic ones, I tried explaining it but I can’t really give him a definite answer, could I get some help?
Im pretty sure metal is more expensive to produce, shape, etc. than plastic.
The price difference is primarily in the labor involved. Most plastic yoyos are injection molded and relatively easy to produce after the mold is made. You can crank out hundreds from the same mold to recover the costs and reduce the cost per unit. Most metal yoyos are individually machined, usually on expensive CNC machines. There is not a lot of cost recovery involved in turning out more. They all cost relatively the same amount to produce. A machined plastic yoyo will approach a machined metal yoyo in price, the major difference being the material cost, which is a small part of the overall cost.
Yes Aluminim is expsensive and the andozation, plus bearing, pads, string. Just to sum it up metals are more costly than plastics.
You can’t include bearing, pads and string. Plastic yo’s come with those too.
JHB really has the best answer. More or less it’s the only answer.
