Mk1 Yoyos & Lord of the Rings

Y’all bought up the pinks on Yoyoexpert already. :purple_heart::sparkling_heart:

Tokyo-yo had some flattering things to say about the Umbra. I accidentally sent him a pre-dinged one though. :boom::yo-yo::cat2:

Kitty grade.

Pre-dinged huh? Start of a new trend? Like buying jeans with holes in them or new “road warn” Fender guitars.

new trend is now started, only buying yoyos with dings.

I put the idea of pre-scuffed yoyos to Yoyofficer when I was on the team. I suggested that new jeans were sold with holes, so why not scuffed up yoyos. Haha. They weren’t quite sold on the idea.

Kaweco pens did a stonewash edition on their aluminum sport model!

I genuinely love this idea for a YoYo. Only problem would be if it would still be glass smooth after the wash.

Elliot sent me this trick video with the converge. Check it out!

Jack competed in his 2nd contest recently, Scales Open v3. There are some wonderful and fun slack elements in here. He used the Mk1 Umbra in his signature blue/blue fade colorway. Give it a watch.

There was a secret restock of Umbras here at YoyoExpert, including both blue and pink:

As a nerd, I’d like to say just how amazing it is to see your yoyo on dice. Now I don’t have to GUESS how it will look next to my set. Just one question: when does the 5e Umbra drop?

Another fountain pen lover? Hooray!

What sort of yoyo would you all like to see from Mk1 next after the Converge releases?

It’s never too early to begin planning, and I’d love to hear from you all. I have a pretty big folder full of 75% finished designs, plus lots of empty space to make more.

Here’s some ideas to vote for, you can vote for multiple. If you have specific thoughts please comment below!

  • Organic shape
  • Comp shape
  • Inner ring bimetal
  • Midship ring bimetal
  • Monometal
  • Something with the diffraction cup

I would vote for a responsive version of the Defraction 2. Most popular metal responsives are quite narrow. We need a good full size, standard shape responsive. You can find them in plastic, but it is hard to find in metal. Compare the Weekender (metal) to the First Base (plastic) and there is quite a difference.

What is mid ship bimetal?

I would love to see what you could do with a mid-ring bimetal in a organic-ish shape. I can’t think of an available yoyo with this setup.

Think YYF Edge or SF Statement.

That’s an interesting idea! At the very least I could draw up a CAD file for it.

Just buy a butterfly XT and put that bearing in your diffraction 2 and itll be responsive.

There’s a couple types of ‘responsive’ - weekender is 0a (stalls, kick flips) and First Base/PLSTC are for doing string tricks but with tug response. The PLSTC is pretty close in shape to the Diffraction, it’s fine as a responsive but I wouldn’t really use it for 0a. The walls are too low.

The Moonshine 2 is the widest 0a yoyo I’ve used - it’s heavy but really good.

The posts on the diffraction 2 are too long to fit a slim bearing in.

Edit: I think the Butterfly XT has a regular wide C bearing anyhow
