I like to throw to metal no matter how heavy, but I prefer instrumental (Call of Ktulu, Orion, etc.,) because with other music I tend to try to follow the lyrics.
Progressive metal is definitely my music of choice, but I prefer to throw to something more “chill”. Nujabes is my go to yoyo music.
Just listening to some old skool Ozzy, Iommi and Sabbath. These boys can riff. Focusing on Ozzmosis and Iommi (the first album I think, with Skin on it). They both have this full throated New Orleans grunge feel, but just years before that stuff came around. So good. now to polarize opinion It’s what Metallica wishes it was

I throw to Blessthefall, Black Veil Brides, and I Set My Friends On Fire. Super legit stuff.
When I feeling a bit different, I throw to Nightwish, and cmon you gotta support the band with a fellow thrower: Holy Grail!
