while I can (barely) see YYJ going for a collab, I wouldn’t see YYF going for one.
CLYW/Onedrop are small companies on a small market, there is enough room for many small companies which seem to have their dedicated community to secure their sale.
YYF and YYJ being more “mainstream” companies, they’re on the same market one to another (beginner throws, wide range of metals “for the masses”, large runs, probably more employees etc…)
as I see it, and I might be wrong, but still
ODYY will sell their releases to ODYY community for let’s say 60 to 70% per run (I just made it up)
CLYW will do the same
people who like ODYY or CLYW will most likely buy most of their releases, I have no doubt that a collab like this, even at 150/200$ will be sold within hours
but YYF and YYJ public is much less committed or there might be committed people but less as a percentage on the sales (say 20 to 40%)
they make larger runs, they probably have more employees to pay and a more expensive structure (buildings, taxes, costs etc…) I take it they have to compromise more when designing yoyos while smaller companies can “afford” to make no compromises as the average end customer is more inclined to spend more and more regarding to the features, uniqueness and general qualities.
I might be totally wrong, but this is why, I think, YYJ and YYF couldn’t/wouldn’t collab, but yea, I totally think they should

I see what you are getting at, but you are wrong. Ben Mcphee is a rich man. He can afford to fly his contest team members around the world. He owns his own lathe sets (and a factory in china.)
So, his bills even out. Smaller companies have to make more compromises, for example, quite a few small companies do not include IRG lips on their yoyos to lower cost. And SE yyf yoyos (especially the 888s) sell out really quickly and get jacked up prices on the BST. 1drop is in between small and big.

I’d like to see another YYF CLYW collab. They made one, but it was just a GM2. I’d like to see an entirely different design.

The YYF x CLYW is a pretty good idea, because Jensen was on the CLYW team ;D
And the YYF x SPYY sounds pretty nice because these manufacturers can create one of the best undersized or mid-sized yoyo ;D
