I’ll definitely let you borrow mine, might be a hot minute but I’ll make it happen. ![]()
I think vaseline is perfect for the deep state. Responsive and snappy, and keeps the gap wider to do some 1a tricks as well as 0a. Shims and shaving the SE works well as an alternative, but is less approachable compared just putting vaseline in a desheilded bearing. Most people have some form of vaseline at home as some sort of lip balm. If it comes in a tube or tub, I feel fine using it. I’ve used bag balm, and it works awesome.
I can tell just from the photo that it is 3d printed. That’s a no from me, dawg.
I’ll check back in a decade or two.. there’s serious progress in 3d printing, absolutely for sure, will vouch for that… but not quite enough. I have unusually high standards though and/or I’m just really picky.
Speaking of 3D printed yo-yos, @Ardeus makes FIRE 3D printed fixed axles. I used to have reservations about 3D printed yo-yos but these put them to rest. I don’t know how he does it, but they are seamless and the layers are blended in such a way that it gives it this nice surface texture and really nice hand feel.
This one has heat activated colour changing layers (purple to pink) as well as the clear layers turn orange when exposed to UV. I’ve seen that he has GID filament now too. And he uses oak axles with small holes for response. The response is perfect and they spin very SMOOTH.
This is the slimmest model of his that I have, I believe that it’s called the Stride.
i opened my el mijo sl today and i actually think it might be the one. smaller than my currier and fits in womens skinny jean pockets (!!)
You playing that sucker in fixie mode? ![]()
I’m working on getting a couple things from him. International shipping is crazy expensive right now so I have to be patient. ![]()
not yet! the response is so nice out of the box that i havent even unscrewed it - i have dinged it on my belt buckle already though ![]()
Haven’t seen anyone mention the firecracker by recess yet! Its designed for responsive 1a, not the best for stalls and the like, but it plays great either responsive with a greased up flat bearing, or unresponsive with a clean bearing.
I cant vouch for the new d-bearing version, but the original c bearing one is what piqued my interest in responsive 1a play!
@Yodaddyo thanks for the shout, being equal to a Gates is probably as good as I can hope to be.
I have to recommend the Russell Coke. High walls, pocket friendly and does everything except pull starts. There’s a bunch of models with very slightly different weight distribution worth exploring and I’d say any of them, even the knockoffs are more playable than Duncan’s. This is with Antmans upgraded Russell
Also really like the Black Mamba Steel. Looks cool, 66g equals stupid amount of power.
I don’t think anyone mentioned the Crop Circle. I want one at some point, hope more get made.
These are the slims at the front of my pile. There’s more ![]()
And then this one is for sale, very similar design to the Slim Dude
@Lydia - So honestly I’m in th same boat as you. I play slim responsives primarily.
I really do love my polycarbonate El Mijo and the new SL isn’t too bad either.
I really love my OD Deep State and it’s been my go to EDC pocketable throw lately.
I just got this TopYo “Brick” and it’s very comparable. Thin and responsive with a lubed up c bearing.
If you are in the market, give it a try. Or I can send some pics of the profile and gap similarities/differences.
I carry my Workhorse just about everywhere.
Just got this in, T2 by 7YO. At under 19mm wide and 50mm dia. it’s definitely slim and pocketable. Not quite as responsive as I’d like, so I tried adding some grease to the bearing, but the bearing tolerances are pretty sloppy so the grease didn’t do much. I’ll try a higher quality greased slim spec bearing when I get home. It’s too heavy for my taste at 62g, and I really wish the edges were tapered towards the gap slightly instead of totally flat. The finger dimples actually work quite well. So many aspects of this are so close to being great, but in the end it falls short. For only $10 it was worth a shot though.
Dude, what’s are the guts like in this thing? Is it responsive?
New DD for next year? Looks sick
Unresponsive but you could play it responsive. It’s my take on an Aluminum Butterfly (one of my favorite jams from the pandemic) but much more capable for a slimline.
And yes sometime next year @Captrogers
I bought a number of those Mowl Round One 3d-printed responsives as an experiment
and.. you’re right it is DEFINITELY getting better. I wouldn’t quite put it in the same category of mass produced plastic items, but it’s definitely decent now. After another 10 years it might be pretty close.
And the price is GREAT. $10.99 is even cheaper than the magicyoyo chinese mass produced responsives, the K2 Plus Crystal.. that’s like $12-$15 or more depending on colorway.
