Let's talk Mechanical Keyboards

Any YoYoExpert discounts on your keyboard @codinghorror? :slightly_smiling_face:

I have 2 ducky shine 6s, have the launch limited edition with the floating key caps and the year of the rooster edition. Both with brown switches, the year of the rooster is my work keyboard where the launch edition is my home desk keyboard

Heh! I wish! It’s all done through WASD. I have to buy my own now too, like a regular person … just bought a Code V3 tenkeyless in fact

Ah cool, I just decided it’s time to build out my home office given the current state of the world and wanted a keyboard upgrade. :slightly_smiling_face:

Massdrop ctrl is my daily driver. (Set up stock as far as I know) I don’t really have any complaints, it does what I need it to do and feels nice.

(I know almost nothing about keyboards) but all this talk about hardware has piqued my interest. I love tinkering with stuff.

Looks great, Smiley!

wow i never realized keyboards were a thing. I liked the olde worlde look one with wooden fascia.

I prefer the high-profile version of the Massdrop keyboards. That floating key look really doesn’t do it for me.

You should get some custom keycaps now!

It’s a little dusty but do love the ducky

Would you be so kind as to recommend specifics for further modification/ customization of this board’s hardware?

Well, keycaps are such a matter of personal taste, it’s hard to make recommendations. For an all-gray look, I recommend a keycap set in the Dolch family, like this:

Or just browse the keycap sets that are currently dropping on Massdrop.

I like how easy it is to just blow dust out of the floating key style boards, but deep dish cases just look sooo good

Oh no… What have I done…

I’m interested in a 65%. I mainly work from my Surface Pro 6, so my current keyboard feels like overkill; plus I never use F and Media keys. But I do use arrow and delete keys pretty frequently. I only type (I’m not a gamer).

Could you recommend a good budget friendly model or brand? I like your taste (from what I see here).

A little late to the party, but I wanted to let you all know what you got me into. This Leopold FC980M feels great. (I tried a different recommended board, but had trouble with the type C connection) I loved the feel and sound of the sturdy OM keycaps, but I had my heart set on doing this tweaked-for-work-needs color combo. The modifiers and larger legends of the Tai-Hao keycaps are perfect for my eyes.

[Edit: Forgot to mention I went with the MX Clears which helps me avoid typos from accidental light presses, and I added a little silicone ring under each key to reduce the bottoming out noise.]

Looks nice! Clears are my favorite linear switches and those caps add a bit of zazz without being to crazy in the workplace (by that I mean not having people ask “wtf is that weird colored thing?” every 10 minutes)

I really like the look of these KAT keycaps:

Basically a shorter, curvier SA.

And the legends are nice and clean too.

It’s too bad this is such a niche set. I’d love to see this profile more readily available in more colors and in doubleshot pbt. First world problems

They keyboard itself cost around $150. The keycaps were free (thanks to special circumstances). The yoyo cost $99. :sunglasses:
