Is it a OD collab? Thought cerakote was one drop exclusive?
It’s not OD exclusive. Cerakote is a brand. Whether or not Jake used the same company to finish his yo-yos is one thing, but anyone can buy the materials. https://www.cerakote.com/
It’s quite apparent that it’s the same company considering they made the exact same colors. Honestly, I’m somewhat disheartened knowing that another company/person chose to proceed with the identical concept.
I perceive it as unfair to One Drop, although it’s realistic to acknowledge that OD likely wasn’t the pioneer of this idea.
I’m somewhat curious as to why Jake opted for this particular anodizing technique. My speculation is that it’s influenced by the success it brought to One Drop. Eitherways it’s a cool one and there should be more yoyos like so!
I don’t think you understand. Anyone can buy that color green from Cerakote and apply it to their gun, yo-yo, or bike parts.
You and I both could go to sherwin williams and buy the same paint and paint our houses the same color. It’s not plagiarizing.
OD wasn’t even the first yoyo brand to do cerakote either, YYF and Hydrangea off the top of my head have experimented with cerakote before any of the OD releases. Also, all cerakote shades are the same regardless of the shop applying them, like pantone colors with anodization. I can go to a local cerakote shop 20 minutes from me and get the exact same thing.
I agree that the green is similar to other Cerakote yo-yos, but UV reactive pink and green powder coated Slim Dunks were sold in Jan 2023. IIRC this predates the first UV reactive green ODs, which I believe were the Wyverns that started to appear in pictures in Feb 2023.

Various Dunks have been copper plated, nickel plated, powder coated, hubstacked, made from stainless and Ti, released in bi-metal versions etc. That covers several different designs, but I think it is fair to say that this line in general is a canvas for all kinds of finishes and variations.
I was pretty amused by the store page write-up on the realities of owning a Cerakote yo-yo.
Pepto Pink Parlay looks amazing.
Ha. I’m not the only one who thinks Pepto.
I’ve been dying to get my hands on one of those all white cerakote yo-yos. And getting it on a parlay would be super awesome
The white on that Cerakote Parlay looks chalky vs the white that they used on the Kamu, which is glossy. It could also just be the photo…
I’ve got a pink Panorama so I’ll pass on these.
I’m just the sober person at the yoyo meetup in the corner looking at all the fancy yo-yos u guys have
oohhh neato
The Parlay drop post on IG also noted these upcoming Cerakote releases.

Why would a company who specializes mainly in finishing limit their clientele to one company? And vice versa why would someone not use a company that’s well versed in coating yo-yos if that’s what they are looking for?
It’s just business. I wouldn’t hold anything against anyone over choosing to have a similar coating on their yo-yos. I’m sure One Drop, a company that is willing to let others design yo-yos using their side effects, isn’t bothered much by Jake choosing to cerakote his Dunks.
I agree, if anything it’s most likely the opposite. It’s like a badge of honor if others in ur industry look to replicate or utilize something you did first. It’s a sign that it was a good idea. I would feel good if I inspired others to do something I was doing
