Don’t get me wrong, I thought that UV reactive cerakotes were OD exclusive, did not know that it was a common finish that everyone else could use. I even mentioned I already realise they aren’t the first to apply it on their models. I was just curious to why Jake chose to do the same exact colours using the same ano shop?
Let’s be real cerakote is pretty much one of the main reasons drops keep selling out (solids sit for weeks) so I wouldn’t be surprised if another company decided to go through with the same idea in hopes of achieving the same success rate.
As for side effects, it’s a win win situation for both OD and whoever decides to use them on their yoyo, because eventually you would have to go through OD to purchase a side effect.
With that being said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Relic being used by other yoyo companies too…
Neon colors are pretty common and by no means unique. They’ve been done before and will be done in the future. Jake actually reached out to me last year before One Drop started to release more neon/UV reactive colors to powder coat some of his slim Dunks in neon green and pink.
I do not believe he is piggy backing off of One Drop, I think he just wanted to release some yoyos in colors he likes. Most One Drop throws sell well regardless of the finish. The cerakotes are cool and allow metal yo-yos to be available in colors anodizing cannot achieve, but at the end of the day people buy them because they’re very high quality yo-yos regardless of coating.
cerakote isnt an andozing finish, its a ceramic coating thats basically airbrushed onto the yoyo halves. yoyo halves are anodized before getting the cerakote finish.
Haven’t bought a one drop in years but I knew I had to buy this pink deeper state. Been playing with it a bunch! Got a couple of scuffs here and there.
This coat is very fragile! Not even sure how I got those scratches on the inside… Also I was curious and found out the hard way that the finish comes off if you scratch an exposed portion, so don’t do that. It’s worth it though, this looks amazing!
With the weak Yen EMS prices have gotten cheaper and my last few imports delivered in under a week. Still doesn’t beat Free shipping over $50 domestic though.
