Kendama

Is there a good starter and any easy trick? I just got a yomega one today thanks.

I think it best to look around the skill toy section of this forum.

Agreed, this thread should go in the skill toy forum. But kendamas look fun, for some reason everybody and their brother has one now.

to me kendama is extreme ball in a cup.

I was just checking out kendama joes tuts on YouTube.

Sweets Kendamas has a ton of tutorials up for all skill levels. Check out their youtube channel.

Kind of like yoyo’s then

If you watch some of Sweets Kendama Edits you can learn some really nice tricks. I find kendama easier to pick up complex tricks because there isn’t anything about the string or string layers, where to place the string etc.

Hi everyone, this thread popped up via some googling.
First, the intro, hi, I’m Void, been yo-yoing for nearly 20 years. Oldschooler. Don’t do much throwing now, I’m all about the kendama these days.

Seems to be quite a few throwers drifting over into the kendama sphere recently, so I thought I’d give you a bit of a heads up on some starter stuff:
Firstly, there’s a lot of beginner info and general information on http://kendama.co.uk , including a player’s forum. All kendama-curious folks are welcome to come on over and say hi in the forum there.
A beginners FAQ is here:

…and a bunch of simple basic tutorials (focusing on good technique) are here:

For you US beginners you have http://sweetskendamas.com/ and http://kengarden.tumblr.com/ if you don’t want to go to a UK site all the time.

I think kendamausa and yoyo expert should sort of like merge as advertise/ sell some basic items of the others store. I bought a Kendama from Kendamausa and I have no problems with shipping or anything. I just prefer to buy from yoyo expert.

Spike, Big cup, Little cup, Candlestick, Airplane, and Around Japan.

Airplane, throw to Sara grip bottom cup, down spike, throw to lighthouse, in, jumping stick. Not a beginner trick but it’s my favorite combo
