I just don’t understand why you think a different opinion from yours is “angry”. I’m certainly not angry, and I don’t think anyone else is.
You seem to have an opinion that is angry at Jensen for doing this fun freestyle.
I’m definitely not angry lol. I didn’t spend any money so it’s not affecting me. Did I find it disrespectful and a mockery of the “sport” aspect of yoyoing, yes.
So you’re telling me if you spent almost $1000 (that you earned) getting Jensen to BAC, you would feel like you gained something? Would you want your brand looking like you encourage mockery of contest? I wouldn’t think so.
Edit* Did anyone else notice that every final on the BAC youtube has a thumbnail picture but Jensen’s freestyle does not? This could be a sign the the BAC staff didn’t like what Jensen did…just speculation
I just want to ask a question: do those of you who think what jensen did is okay think that doing a bad routine half on purpose was not disrespectful? Sure, I suppose it’s understandable in the moment he was doing it. But afterwards, I think he probably might have been slightly regretting it.
Again, CLYW did not seem mad about Jensen doing this.
But whatever. I’m done here. It’s going no where. I enjoyed the freestyle, some people didn’t. They are the minority and don’t seem to have that great of an argument so I’m out.
I should mention. I looked over at the judges during Jensens little knot combo, and they all had nothing but laughs and smiles. Other top level yoyoers around me had nothing but the same. Other newer younger kids watching were joking with it and having fun, Jensen got off stage his normal self happy with what he did, and the non YoYo audience was eating it up. It seems to me that the only ones offended by this were not even at this contest…
That doesn’t necessarily that it’s not disrespectful… just cuz there was a different reaction than was possible. Oh and I don’t think anyone’s “bothered.”
I’m just saying that the idea that the contest judges and organizers were offended by this or upset is not true as both were enjoying it.
I don’t think necessarily anything offending just disrespecting.
Well than I assume you’re fine with blowing $1000 to have your guy to not even try. You do know with a sponsorship you do reflect that company through everything you do? CLYW apparently is ran by Charles at this point, do you really think he would have any problem with anything Jensen did? I would guess no since they’re buddies.
Where are people getting this he stopped trying idea? He clearly was planning on doing what he did the whole time. You can tell by his demeanor before he even started. He didn’t even start throwing until a few seconds after the music started. He wasted almost 2/5 of his freestyle fooling around when he could continued to do legitimate tricks and tried.
And I don’t think either the judges or contest organizers took it that way either.
To answer a previous off-topic question, Jmosh… yes, I do exactly that.
I handed my $160 Krown to a little old lady who had fond memories of yoyoing as a child and who asked if she could try it out because it looked fun. I warned her that the string was probably too long for her and she didn’t object to me holding her hand to assist with the throw.
Regardless of the “help”, my yoyo made quite a sound as it contacted the ceramic tile floor. She knew it wasn’t supposed to do that, and apologized, but I just laughed and asked her if she wanted to try again.
It’s just toys. I have no problem saying that about a thousand times to anybody who thinks yoyoing is a “serious sport”.
1k is pretty small in comparison to the revenue Jensen has created. And his freestyle at BAC has caused everyone to talk about him and CLYW. That is a huge win. Doing exactly what a sponsored player/employee should do. Unless you see his freestyle as negative pub. But an overwhelming number of people don’t. This has generated way more attention than AR created for his sponsor by winning.
You’re my new favorite.
More people in this community need to have an attitude like yours.
Greg,
Do you see a difference between casual yoyoing and competetive yoyoing? There is no real pressure yoyoing casually but going on a stage and trying to compete to win has a pressure that people expect you to go up and try. Yoyoing on a stage trying to win is very competitive and as much a sport as anything else.
Since you are a sponsor, If one of your guys went on stage and you flew them to a relatively big contest would you be okay with that? The people talking are on both sides of the spectrum, good an bad. A sponsored player shouldn’t be giving you publicity of being a slacker who goes on stage and makes a mockery of the judges time and of the spot that could have been filled by an individual who tries. I personally find it insulting to everyone and his sponsor for the money wasted.
Yoyoing won’t grow into a sport like baseball, football, or even tennis if it isn’t considered a serious sport.
Just an off-topic thought.
good point, but my point was that it should have been cleared with the contest organizers.
I have no issue with a world champ having fun on stage. I didn’t take his freestyle as a “shot” at anyone. It was just fun.
A freestyle is just that. Do anything you want within the rules.
These events arent organized like that. No one EVER has to ask if its ok for them to do what they want on stage. If you make finals, you are allowed to do whatever you want as long as it adheres to whatever rules are in place at the contest. Jensen broke none of those rules.
