January has been good (climbing)

Just wanted to share that I hope everyone had a good January!

I made a new friend who has taken me rock climbing a lot (12 times in 1 month) and it has really improved my life with the increased social and exercise.

I’m also enjoying yoyo still

NICE! Love climbing. DWS at the Whitewater Center is my fav, but I love trad and bouldering too. That looks like a great wall!

I’ve never tried deepwater solo,

I’ll definitely have to try on the south coast this summer.

Yeah its my new local wall in Gloucestershire, England. I think its 18m tall

Really lucky that they built it last year - its only 25 minutes away by car.

Just started going to a new place near me too! Only a small bouldering cave, but lots of good fun nonetheless! :person_climbing:

Trad’s the best! Multiple pitches on a nice fall day. It doesn’t get much better!

I been interested in climbing for a while, I’m usually someone who goes to a normal gym but this stuff always looked so fun to me..

you should definitely try it if there is a place near you.
you can normally start a conversation with pretty much anyone during a bouldering session, its very social

Vertical Endeavors (Mpls) has a group for people with Parkinson’s disease. Some of my friends are doing it. Looking to start after the ski season. Too much going on now.

I love climbing, but our gyms all closed near us  around an hour away is the closest place to climb now. I’ve been tempted to build a bouldering wall in my backyard or basement. I used to climb, or boulder, 3-5 nights a week when we had our local gym. I really miss that, we had a great group of people that were regulars there.

No local crags? Gyms are great, but rock is better!

Agreed. Haven’t done any recently but have climbed in the Black hills at Sylvan Lake and around Mt Rushmore. I think with rack you have more options for holds and steps. On a climbing wall you are limited to placements chosen by the designer.

We had one, literally one, but it got vandalized quite a bit and it is a mess now.

People can be such asshats!

Just a short udate…

After ski season ended I started climbing with the Upending Parkinson’s group at VE. Great bunch of people, both the volunteer helpers and the PD participants. The volunteers are seasoned climbers who are belay certified and help in numerous ways. Really enjoy it. Session is an hour and a half, but you can stretch it a bit as you like (nobody calls time). They have a 30 ft. room and a 60 ft. room with climbs rated from 5.5 to 5.11+ in each room. The 5.5s in the 60 ft. room will really wear you down. I usually get 3-4 30 ft climbs (5.5-5.8) and 2 60 ft climbs (5.5-5.6) in. Great workout.
