It's late, here's my stupid idea.

For real, though. Good luck with this. I’m sure they’ll be beautiful, but I’m interested in whether the final product is useable or not.

Turning insane ideas into functional yo-yos is kind of my niche. A few references below :joy:

Second one reminds me of a BMT Six Shooter.

This is Hercyoles. It’s 3d printed from limestone mixed with bioplastic. 3d model by me. I tried to get it to evoke Greek columns. 4 mm stainless steel axle, Greek art that I probably accidentally culturally appropriated as the response system. 63 grams.

Honestly it plays really good for a rock. It has more vibe than most of my designs, it it’s very playable. Texture feels like something you would put in a fish tank. It’s very sturdy, I dinged a prototype on pavement a few times.

Glue is drying a fresh print of one to mail to OP.

What’s funny is I’ve had many chats with my brother who wants to make a stone YoYo

This material is pretty fun to work with actually. Gonna make a few more and send OP a few of the best from the lot.

Sadly, if someone did make a yo-yo out of a rock or whatever, no one would be able to throw it.

I say this because every one of us has done some kind of bad things on one level or another.

Now, that being said, I’m not very religious one way or the other.

But I do remember from my Catholic school days, that in the Bible it says, ‘ Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone’.

So technically, no one would be able to throw it without some kind of consequences or at the very least a guilty Conscience.

Now… On a more serious note that actually deals with things closer to reality I will tell you guys a couple things.

First of all, if you made a yo-yo out of stone, the material that you picked out would have to be something with very uniform density to facilitate consistency in the cutting. Most likely you would have to be machine in a wet bath to keep from making one hell of a mess. The best materials of choice would most likely be formations like granite and things of that nature… Marble. Etc.

The problems with most choices that would have what I would consider closer to ideal, densities and consistency in molecular structure, would also just by nature of their density be much heavier. So the finished yo-yo, unless you wanted to pull your throwing finger off your arm, would result in a smaller than average yo-yo diameter.

It definitely could be done. I’ve already thought of some names in case somebody’s bold enough to complete the project. You could call it the Rolling Stone. Or the Stone Temple pilot. Or the Rock ‘n’ Roll.
…. If you made a black yo-yo, you could call it the charcoal briquette. If you make a yo-yo out of some petrified rock, you could call it the Flintstone.

The possibilities are endless.

I imagine a stone throw would be like a wood throw in the fact that the material would have varying density and make balance difficult but unlike wood much harder to work on

Limestone keyhole. Looks like a bone. Plays great.

Making yoyos out of Stone would look very pretty and unique but beside the problems to get it machined (I think soapstone could be handeled) the density of Stone IS around 2.7-2.8 g/cm3 which ist nearly the Same as aluminum. From a technical Perspektive Not the best choice.
Plus you shouldn’t throw it while sitting in a glass house (which ist maybe only understod If you are german)
