is cheif really the way to go?

is the cheif really the yoyo to get? because im not sure if i should save for it. im not picky about my yoyos but i would like to know what to get. I was thinking a yoyofactory but the only thing is ive has problems with the responce pads on that particular brand but im really open to anything just give me your opinion on any yoyo brand out there… because i need help thanks

Really, what’s your budget?

BST can be a way to get some great yoyos at great savings, which since you’re not sure what to get, might open up more opportunities for you to try more yoyos. Like you, I’m not really picky but I am developing preferences.

CLYW and YYF make great stuff. Most issues with response pads are solved through replacing them or siliconing the yoyo, unless it requires some sort of sticker or thin response pads.

Personal opinion, I really like YYJ. I am planning to purchase quite a few more YYJ models, ranging from cheap plastics all the way up to maybe a second Phenom as I want it in blue. Great stuff, good prices. Just got the Chaser. Pretty impressive for the price.

YYF, I’m really interested in expanding my YYF collection at the moment. I have 8, that’s sufficient for now. Plastics and metals, mostly plastics. Just, their higher cost stuff(dv888 and Mighty Flea are my high cost YYF’s) hasn’t really caught my eye. This means nothing as there are many people who like the Fundametals. It’s good stuff with strong followers.

CLWY, well, it’s like “what’s not to like about CLYW”, and honestly, I don’t feel there’s anything to not like about CLYW.

One Drop is another brand to strongly consider. The Code 1 is a great throw, as is the 54. I also have a MMN. The Burnside and Cafe Racer are getting strong positive reviews, while the Dang and Dietz, which also have avid followers, are considered perhaps overly specialized, but that can happen with signature throws. This doesn’t make those models inferior or bad, just they aren’t as widely accepted.

With so many brands to choose from and a wide range of prices for really good stuff, it will be a tough decision to make. If you want to save up for a Chief, then I recommend you go do so.

Your not picky…WHY??? You should be very picky about what yoyo to get so it will suit your style. You only have 4 posts so I assume that you are new, I have to ask how long have you been throwing? If you are not picky, like you should be, then I want to know what yoyos you have and what play style you like. Be very specific about what YOU like. The cbc pads that YYF uses are basically the factory standard of ALOT of companies and brands, you can use flowable in those as well as the ones with the flowable silicone thick groove. They work great too, flowable and the cbc pads.

Also back to the how long have you been throwing thing. How exerienced are you? Can you do the whole list of tricks here on yoyoexpert? If you can’t do them then you should not get a very high end yoyo like the cheif. There are alot of young yoyoers (young to the sport, not neccesarily the age of the person) who go and get a messiah, cheif, or skyline or somthing of the sort and hate it because they are not good enough to test its limits or to use it to its full potential, or even use it properly. I know because I have done the same thing. Got a nice higher end yoyo and I had only been throwing a year…if that much, and I though it sucked. Now I pick it up and I realize how amazing it is and how dumb I was, that yoyo was the G5. I stuck with the dark magic 1 all the way through to the master section and a little beyond. Then you can start to venture out into those competition yoyos or just higher end ones.

So, basically, we need more info. We don’t need to pick the yoyo for you withought being given alot of information before hand.

One Drops Side effects System is going to come in handy for me. I just got the Dang in today and it feels light for a full sized. 63.5 g with the Ultra Light Side Effects that came with it. I ordered Brass Domes to bump up the overall weight to just over 67 g. I love that ability to adjust the weight. The Burnside does not have that ability but people really seem to love it as it is.

If you know your size preference and price range, that will help a lot. Then you can search these and other forums for reviews.

While I ordered the brass dome I added in the DM2 and the YYJ X-Con Pro (shhhh… dont tell the Wife. Its her B-day present she did not think I would order till later). I have gotten into having a variety from cheap to expensive. I still love my $10 YYF Whip.

i have the 54 i love it but i also love the anti yo ywet because of its unresponsivness from the box and its more challenging to land it so its better for me to learn

Yes and No.
I prefer the Sasquatch but the Chief is definetly worth the buck.
Unfortuantely if you dont catch the 135$ ones chances are they’re 160$ on the BST.
Of course you can ask the owner himself if he has one in store and maybe he could sell it to you.
I recommend the Chief but not as the “best yoyo in the universe”
Its definetly a great release but it really depends on your budget.
Its great for 1a and 5a.

I’ve played with a Chief and really liked it. Shape and weight were really perfect for me. But it’s a lot of money and there are yoyo’s that are just as good for much less. If you’re really not picky about yoyo’s then I would say don’t get one. I’m sure you can find something you like just as much, but for less money.
