Introducing The Acorn From Slestak75

Oh I also am having them make 10,000 silicone brake pads :joy: so you will have a source of non cork (no yoyo factory) brake pads soon. I need them for a special project but you can have some @Slestak75 because I cant use all 10,000โ€ฆ probably.

Iโ€™ll make sure to go through the last bit you sent me and test which thickness plays the most similar to cork.:+1:

These new silicone ones will be 1.64 mm thick, which will put them flush with the pad recess on a brake pad yoyo. They will play different than the ones I sent you already because the ones I sent you are 3d printed and my ability to print is limited to a softness of about shore 70a. These silicone ones being made are shore 40a, same softness as RSO landing pads. This should make them more consistent and reliable. They should be incredibly snappy in any classic brake pad yo-yos but we will have to test them out when they get in to see.

Made mine unresponsive and itโ€™s pretty fun

I canโ€™t wait for the production version!

Same. I was looking at making little shims and recessing the pads by hand silicone with gray permatex but thatโ€™s a later project maybe this weekend if time allows.

Iโ€™m thinking the delrin acorn might be really good with gray too.

I sent the Delrin out with like shore 30 Hollywood pads. If you are finding a little too much grip you could swap out for some firmer pads if hand siliconing is too much bother.

Just showing some love to the Copper Acorn Mini

Loving the Patina. I am going to rub my fingers on the inner cups and try to get it similar.

I love the way the patina develops wherever it was handled most. Like one of the ones I shipped out had a clear as day fingerprint on it when I boxed it up :joy: whoever got that one donโ€™t frame me for anything.

I did this.

Thank you for putting that together!

It was my pleasure. Reflecting back on thread made me want to ask (to anyone thatโ€™s tried it), on the OG fixie 3d, how was the response feel between the pads and fixed axle? Iโ€™m always deeply interested in trying to find the perfect response for fixie play.

IMO it wasnโ€™t ideal. I liked the c bearing version more. The problem is the axle is 4 mm and there is enough of a gap between it and the pads that itโ€™s a tad slippy. Itโ€™s not like with the copper mr85 where the pads fit it perfectly.

@kretzschmar, do you still have the RBC? I like to set it up with the ZGRT mr85 bearing blank and the Return Bottoms Stringburn pads (shore 40A RBC pads). Combine that with the OT slim strings, they have a perfect tight twist for grabbing the centered blank and are a good thickness for the 2.3mm gap.

Stay tuned to later this summer when I will hopefully be revealing my own take on a fixie (*mr85 bearing-compatible) setup using these components.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I like the STM to pinwheels. Very fun! :star_struck:

Thank you, just feels right to combine a couple of my favorites.

Donโ€™t have the RBC anymore but I most definitely will keep my eyes out for what you have in the works

I have a question. Is the Acorn supposed to be really light? It doesnโ€™t spin very long

I agree. Alyhough the noise at first was likew โ€œOh crap, this is annoyingโ€ now I fully embrace the noise. It isnโ€™t only a side effect, it genuinely is a built in baked in feature. If quiet is equal to having no personality, an acorn should be full of it. I wish acorns would scream each time they fell off trees now. Thatโ€™d be funny.
