I want to get into yoyoing, but I only own a duncan butterfly and it’s getting boring throwing around a yoyo that doesn’t sleep. Any recommendations for starter yoyos and equipment? Additionally, how often do the one drop terraria yoyos go in stock?

I’d second the Shooting Star.

And if you want a Terrarian…I’m currently selling one.

Here’s my opinion. I’m very new to yoyo myself and I didn’t listen to anybody on these forums you have to buy what you like, what you think is cool. A shape that you like and just buy it. Don’t do what I did and spend 500 or more on 2 months just buying everything.

I found I like organic shapes a lot and the Butterball is awesome but I also found the KOI and the T.R.Y are awesome also and both are cheap.

I second this idea. I think it’s better to make a shortlist of what you like and then filter out the ones that won’t work for your level or for what you want out of yo-yoing.

I also feel that modern tricks and the current meta have made some of the older models obsolete. For example, I see a lot of people starting with a strictly unresponsive yo-yo, sometimes even a metal one right away (I’ve heard they’ve gotten cheaper and better, so dinging one isn’t a big deal, it’ll either hold up fine, or you can just replace it)

+1 on shooting star and if I may add , c3 speedholic xx too. High performance plastic yo-yos with modern specs and fairly inexpensive. No fear of messing up your yo-yos when u are just starting out and learning how to handle your unresponsive throws confidently.

You can buy whatever u like and still practise on pom/ delrin/ plastics. That’s what my nephew did and within weeks he was already pulling off intermediate to advanced tricks I won’t even attempt

The Speedaholic is also great. But I recommend the shooting star because it comes with both type of bearings standard.

All of these tricks can be done on a Butterfly

Terrarian was my first premium yoyo and I still have mine. If you like to tinker with how it plays I think you’ll like it. +1 for Shooting Star

I’m selling that exact yoyo:thinking:

A shooting star

terrarians dont come out as often as one would like them to, especially since one drop has been pretty busy this year.

I like my YYF Arrow. Comes with bearings to be responsive or not. Very forgiving, but a little awkward to hold. I’m surprised I hadn’t seen anyone recommend the Recess First Base too. I think it comes easily convertible too. I can’t vouch for it myself, but I usually see people coming to bat for it along with the Shooting Star and Speedaholic…

Honestly I’d grab a ZGRT Libero. It’s just favorite yoyo

You’re most likely better off trying to find one second hand, but One Drop do still make some of them each year; despite them being more than 10 years old! The original Terrarian is definitely one of my favourites & I highly recommend it.

My first was the 888. Still have it and play it after all this time.

Meaning I agree with the comment of get one you think you’re gonna like.

There is a whole world of fixed-axle 0a you can perform on a butterfly! Keep growing your collection and trying different styles, but that butterfly will last you a LONG time!

Y E S. I took this route and am very glad I did. Much rather take $40 lightly used than $70 new, especially when you can get something like an iCEBERG at that price.

And $40 is in the average range for used Terrarian. Solid colors depreciate quite a bit
