I'll pay for personal CAD lessons

Looking for someone to help me make a few yoyos from scratch and walk me through the process over video chats/screen sharing. 2-3 days a week and an hour or two each day.

Mk1 mark has an absolute awesome series going over exactly this on YouTube here’s a link to the pure cad video but I would recommend checking out the mk1 mechanics video to start and maybe dm’ing them direct.

I watched some of them last year. Would be nice to have one to one interaction as well as be able to ask other questions about yoyo manufacturing.

Totally understand I’m unqualified for personal advice so I’m gonna ping @MarkD

My dad used to be a machinist and had access to CNC machines. He’s retired now unfortunately/fortunately for him. Would be pretty dang cool to make some yoyos.

@MarkD also did a live session at Nats. I’m not sure if it was recorded. It was excellent and he did great even though the audience insisted on selecting completely impractical yoyo specs.

Is the advice you’re looking for general workflow or is there something else? What is your level of experience?

I think the right question is: “how much will you pay?”

I mostly ask because I’m a hobbyist and while I don’t consider my advice worthy of paying for (or perhaps put less self-deprecatingly, I’d be happy to share what I know with the community freely), I’d be happy to help @Yo-yo_Power get unstuck if I’m able.

I also recommend this series:

If you ever have any questions about yo-yo design/manufacturing I would be happy to try to answer them. While I may not have as much experience as someone like @MarkD or @hobbygod or others I have been designing yo-yos for a while. Just PM me.

Thank you everyone

My lvl of experience with 3D modeling is zero. I’m confident if someone held my hand a bit I’d have no problem.

As a musician I would assume somewhere between 25-50 and hour.

I don’t have the experience to help you, but I have watched the videos linked in this thread and found them to be very informative.

I had a little bit of trouble following the “Yoyo Design with FreeCAD” video because I was using a newer version of the software. I had to pause frequently to find functions in menus that Mark was able to execute with the keyboard & mouse. It was especially tricky when I didn’t don’t know the name of the operation that was performed. I was, however, able to create something that looked yoyoish.

I’m down to teach. Not the most qualified yoyo creator as I haven’t made a bearing seat in a few years. I do have a ton of hours in CAD though working on other projects. I can teach the basics and most things 3D printer related, but amything thats metal yoyo specific (bearing seats, bimetal, etc) I would just have to eatch the videos and regurgitate back to you.

I do have experience teaching CAD so I know the beginner thought process which is the most difficult part for most people. The thought process behind how you create an object is the part I am the best at teaching.

What software are you wanting to use?

It was recorded, but not posted anywhere yet.

Yeah, this is a problem with software in general - I should record a new tutorial to go over the new version of FreeCAD.

I unfortunately don’t have time to run 1:1 lessons - but if someone posts questions I can answer them publicly and help a lot of people all at the same time

I’ve gone through the basic yo-yo video you have multiple times this last week. I’m finally getting the hang of using free CAD I’m able to make things that look like yo-yos. I’m going to try and follow along and make the spyglass as well.

Very nice work, then! All CAD takes some time to learn and it can feel overwhelming at first - if you are getting 3d objects out of it, you are well on your way!
